Melissa Coker

A few weeks ago I visited lovely Melissa Coker's studio for her wonderful clothing line Wren. This week I went back to shoot her closet! She lives and works in Silver Lake, Los angeles. Red lips and short skirt with flats (although she wore heels for the shoot) is her signature look for sure and she's not afraid of colors and patterns. The thing I learned from Melissa is you can wear a skirt over a dress and have a whole new look. Super cool! ; ) Melissa has a special connection to her grandmother and had sprinkled little reminders of her throughout her living space -- some purses and jewelry and lovely pictures. I thought it was so sweet and beautiful.

Who are your favorite designers/brands? Charles Anastase, a.p.c., Chanel, Isabel Marant, Wren Are there any key pieces you find yourself wearing constantly? I wear a black full mini skirt from my line so much I have to force myself to wear other things. I love brightly colored cardigans and wear a different one nearly every day. A rainbow of cardigans live in my closet.

Who are your style icons? Mia Farrow, Goldie Hawn, Julie Christie, my grandmother

What trends do you predict for 2011? Longer lengths, colored animal prints, special shirt dressing, rose & blush colors, layering of heavy bangles.

Do you have any stories about amazing deals you've gotten on awesome pieces? I once found a load of Dries Van Noten at a garage sale.

Can you give us smart shopping advice? Great versions of trendy items can be found at the cheapy retailers of the world. I recently bought a silk button down at Club Monaco -- it is perfectly what I was looking for & half the price of the one I'd been wanting from Barneys.

What is your most recent purchase? Printed Chanel heels I found at Decades What's something you wouldn't be caught dead wearing? Strong shoulders. Are people still doing that?

Do you have any fashion guilty pleasures? Mmmm.Whowhatwear is sort of a guilty pleasure. I read it every day. What's your typical day like? Wake up at 7...Spend some time cuddling with Pepper before getting out of bed...gym or hike.....workworkwork til 8ish...Netflix instant...zzzzzzzzzz
