A Night at Brown’s Hotel With Netflix

This time last week it was pouring with rain, freezing cold and so cloudy that I almost forget what daylight looked like. So I needed an escape from reality. Enter my superhero dressed in red, Netflix. They invited me to attend their 48-hour Mr Selfridge catch up tour, along with a handful of European press, which took place in Central London.

Playing tourist in your hometown is real treat, and this little staycation was just what the doctor ordered! I checked into Brown’s Hotel late afternoon, feeling pretty down in the dumps because of the miserable weather, but the discovery of a Selfridges hamper waiting in my room instantly lifted my mood. (FYI, I really enjoy staying at hotels in the Rocco Forte group because their logo is virtually identical to the monogram Roger Federer wears on his tennis kit, so it looks like you’re wearing Federer-branded hotel slippers). I immediately ditched my plans to catch up on emails before the evening’s festivities, and instead tucked into Shopping, Seduction & Mr Selfridge by Lindy Woodhead, which was included in the hamper.

Before sitting down to dinner, Netflix hosted a “silent screening” in the Kipling Suite (which is where Rudyard Kipling wrote The Jungle Book), presenting each guest with an iPad and headphones so we could watch whatever we desired on Netflix. Almost everyone opted for Mr Selfridge, but I crammed in another episode of Pretty Little Liars, which I’m currently hooked on.

Over dinner at HIX Restaurant I braved snails for the very first time (they tasted okay but were sill gross because they’re SNAILS!!!) and chatted with the other guests about our favourite shows on Netflix. Here’s a list of my must-stream TV…

The next morning we returned to HIX Restaurant for breakfast, before heading out for the Mr Selfridge tour of London (which I’ll be posting about tomorrow). There’s nothing better than a fancy hotel breakfast buffet, right? I wish I could start every day in this manner!
