I’ll be honest and admit layering has never been my forte. I’d much rather wear one or two great pieces than a handful of items (because, for one, it means less laundry). However, my monumental dislike of cold weather has forced me to become more experimental, and I’ve developed a few failsafe styling tricks. Here I’m putting one of my favourite fashion formulas to work – heatteach vest merino wool knit statement top printed scarf – and you’ll find the rest of my winter layering rulebook below…
If none of your necklines match up it doesn’t matter. Just disguise any uneven layers with a scarf. No one will ever know.
Cardigans don’t always have to be the final step in layering. Instead, try placing them underneath a sleeveless dress or statement top. Just remember to do all the buttons up first.
Your favourite autumnal jacket can double as a winter coverup. So if cardigans are too twee for your style wear preppy blazers instead. The same can be said for denim jackets, which look brilliant belted at the waist and worn underneath wool coats.
When the temperature really starts to plummet, wear tights underneath your leather leggings/skinny jeans. You won’t regret it.
Hate being separated from your favourite biker jacket? Then invest in a longline fur gilet or sleeveless wool jacket to wear on top of your leather throughout the frostier months.
Top: SEA c/o | Cardigan: Uniqlo | Skirt: Warehouse (past season) | Bag: Longchamp c/o | Boots: Stuart Weitzman c/o | Hat: Anthropologie | Rings: Monica Vinader and PANDORA c/o | Nail Polish: Ciaté Ferris Wheel
