Passionfruit Ads vs. Adproval - How to Decide
Earlier this year I experimented with Passionfruit Ads to serve the "indie" ads on my blog. I used Passionfruit for several months, then transitioned to Adproval. They're both great services, but without trying them both it can be tricky to figure out which one is the best fit for your blog.
So, today I'm going to give you a quick rundown of both services to help you decide which one is right for you. Let's check them out!
Passionfruit Ads
In short: Passionfruit Ads is for bloggers who are already selling ads. If you're earning over $100 per month from sponsors and putting too much time into managing your ads, the $9 monthly fee is a great value.
The Details
Monthly Fee: $9
Transaction Fee: 2.9% $0.30 for each sale — the transaction fee does not apply to free ads.
Payment Options: Your advertisers can pay with their PayPal account or by credit card.
Payment Schedule: If your sponsors pay with PayPal, you'll receive your payment on the Friday of the same week. If your sponsors pay by credit card, you'll receive your payment on the Friday of the following week.
Passionfruit's code is simple to install on any blogging platform. Your subscription allows you to sell banner ads, sponsored posts, social media mentions, etc., through Passionfruit's shopping cart.
The monthly subscription fee of $9 is for a Passionfruit subscription and is not tied to your sales — if you don't earn anything, you still pay the fee.
Adproval
In short: Adproval's sale-based fee makes it perfect for new blogs, button swappers, and blogs that don't offer a lot of ad space. If your ad spaces don't sell, or if you only do free swaps, you pay nothing. One caveat — Adproval payments only work for US-based blogs since it uses Amazon Payments.
The Details
Monthly Fee: None
Transaction Fee: 10% of each sale — no fee for free ads.
Payment Options: Your advertisers can pay with a credit card through Amazon Payments.
Payment Schedule: You receive your payment instantly when you approve an ad.
Adproval's code is simple to install on any blogging platform. Sponsored posts, social media mentions, giveaways, etc., are coming soon.
The sale-based fee makes it a perfect place to get started, though you may outgrow it as your ad sales increase.
