All Natural Cough Syrup

Note: Honey is not intended to be used on babies under 1 year of age. Please consult with your pediatrician before giving your child honey.

I am always open to trying all natural remedies for illnesses since I am still breastfeeding and cannot take many of the over-the-counter tricks out there. Many of the parents of my students are from Turkey and always have the best suggestions for home remedies they grew up using. After hearing my daughter was sick, one my student’s Moms brought me two black radishes. She told me to hollow it out, poke a hole in the bottom, pour in some honey, and allow it sit for a few hours. The juices from the radish and the honey would make an all natural cough syrup I could use on Annabelle.

Unfortunately, Annabelle would not let me give her a taste. I, however, after a coughing fit, had a spoonful and immediately felt better. The syrup tasted a bit like honey, and a bit like the Earth. It wasn’t the most pleasant thing I’ve ever sipped, but it did the job. I used the syrup for two days and noticed myself coughing less.

Do you have any all natural remedies for colds/cough?
