Mastering Minimal Makeup | Cups&Roses

One of my first blogging friends Diana, (Cups&Roses) and I have a lot in common, be it our love for makeup, color palettes, or art. I adore here simple yet tasteful blog and have a lot of praise for her minimalistic approach to beauty. Given my own affinity for everything “Minimal”, I got her to talk about whats minimal to her on my blog and tell us how she manages to look so pretty yet natural always!

She is an architecture student, designs jewelry and takes singing lessons in her free time.. (talk about multi-talented!) She lives in Athens, Greece and you can find her blog here and follow on Bloglovin’ for weekly posts (and all round awesomeness!)

Minimalism as an art movement, stands for simplicity, but meaningful simplicity. You are standing in front of an art piece, plain from words, and you can think of a million messages. A minimalistic space contains a few pieces of simple furniture, a monochrome palette and lots of free space for you to move and live. A minimalistic wardrobe has basic pieces with a few statement ones, that could be paired in a thousand ways, providing you so many choices; better than having a million clothes and still make you feel ‘I have nothing to wear‘.

But what Minimalism means when it comes to makeup? Of course you’ll think at once ‘less is more’, said by the architect Mies van der Rohe and being the most loved phrase for anything really. All women who love make up can reassure you that even after using a ton of products with a light hand, in the right way, you can still create a simple, natural look, so less isn’t the case here. If it’s not already clear from above, Minimalism means freedom, freedom from anything that holds you back. So as far as makeup is concerned, a minimal routine gives you the chance to accept and love yourself, your features, the canvas you already have and also to create an art that will enhance you.

Base | A healthy looking skin is a glowing skin, so in order to achieve the famous glow from within look, it’s important to use an illuminating foundation, like the Bourjois Happy Light (Review). It is lightweight and moisturising, and mixed with an actual illuminator, like the Revlon Skinlights in Pink Light, this combination will give you a fresh touch from the start. No powder needed here because we’re going for a luminous base.

Cheeks | Nothing would be more appropriate than an all rounder blush with brown undertones, like the Benefit Dallas (Review), an almost rusty brown shade, which adds a touch of colour on your cheeks, but also defines them with its cool undertone. Now it’s time to enhance the glow by adding more of the Revlon Skinlights on the highest points of your face, above your cheekbones, center of forehead, nose and chin.

Lips | The Dior Addict Lip Glow (Review) is a perfect choice for a minimal look, because it not only acts as a plumping balm, keeping lips moisturised for hours, but it also reacts with your lips’ pH for a personalised pink pout. This formula is so creamy and the vanilla mint scent makes it stand out.

Eyes | You can also add a little illuminator on the brow bone and the inner corner of your eyes for a brightening effect. A must have tool for a minimal routine is the Eyelash Curler, as it really opens up your eyes and you can definitely skip mascara or preferably use one that gives natural looking lashes like the Max Factor Clump Defy Mascara.

Brows | No worries, there is no filling involved, as a clear brow gel (Review) will shape and set them in place successfully throughout the day.

Extra | As a finishing touch, you can use the Body Shop Vitamin E Face Mist, in order to bring the whole look together, lock the moisture in and enhance your effortless fresh look!
