Not A MAC Lipstick Fan

That frustration when people around you go on and on about something and you just can’t make it work for yourself! My relationship with MAC has been a complicated one and their lipsticks have had a lot to do with it. I have never quite understood whats so strange about my lips that these so called “black tubes of lipstick perfection” DO NOT get along with them!

Nonetheless, I have quite a few colors from the brand suggesting that I gave it a fair chance! The row after row of colors just gets me every time! While I don’t exactly hate it I have never been wowed either and I am usually left wanting more from each tube. Here’s a roundup of my collection.

Favorites

Lets begin on a positive note, The Mineralize Rich and Amplified formulas are hands down my favorite and not just in MAC but also across other brands. I have Glamour Era from the Mineralize Rich formula which is my perfect everyday lipstick. I have had it for a while and only recently rediscovered my affection for it. Its described as a frost which could not be further from the truth because this lipstick is creamy, its moisturising, its pigmented, anything but frosty! This is what a game-changer looks like if you ask me!

During my last Back-To-MAC swap I got Dubbonet in exchange for 6 MAC empties and instantly fell for it. I am not a regular red lipstick wearer but this particular lipstick has everything that I want – pigment, richness, wear time, creaminess you name it. Its part of the Amplified Creme finish range which explains the outstanding pigmentation and creaminess without the dryness of a matte.

Disappointments

The Sheen Supreme and Satin formulas are my least favorite. The Sheen Supreme lipsticks are extra creamy which means they are going to melt into a mushy blob when the temperature soars. The finish on the lips is uneven, clumpy and not exactly my idea of hydrating. I have Bare Again a lovely looking browny-nude which gathers on my lips in lumps and Ultra Darling a bright warm pink with a better finish but disappointing nevertheless.

The Satin on the other hand are way more drying than you’d expect from such a finish and I have no idea what MAC was thinking! I have tried Verve and Mocha the former of which my mum had to use up and the later is eating dust in the lipstick-box.

Almost There

The Lustre formula is kind of in between. I don’t hate it but sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Lustre lipsticks being sheerer in finish end up looking different on my pigmented lips and some of them feel waxy on application leaving me quite underwhelmed. I have a few from the range, See Sheer a coral and the best of the lot, Hug Me which is supposed to be a browny nude but turns more purple-y on me instead and Freckletone which I have no idea why I bought because its clearly too pale. I would definitely be steering clear of getting more of these because I know I its going to take a lot to make them work.

All said and done there is something about MAC lipsticks and their sweet vanilla scent that makes me want more, knowing perfectly well that it might be a huge fail! I have quite a few on my radar especially from the Mineralize and Amplified formulas. Suggestions are welcome!
