DIY : : Polymer Clay Snowman Mug Buddies
This past December, when we visited family and friends in the Midwest, my little ones were really looking forward to seeing snow. After a full year away from the realities of Midwestern winters, they have a sort of romantic notion of the season. We all do.
As luck would have it, or lack of luck as the case may be, we spent three full weeks in Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota and not a single flake fell. While I’m certainly not going to complain about the unseasonably warm weather we encountered; I know all the Midwesterners we love certainly enjoyed the winter reprieve. It didn’t really fill my kids winter cup in the way that they had dreamed about.
Now, back in California, in the midst of our not-at-all-wintry-winter, my little ones are still nostalgic for the winters they remember, the winters they see in books. While I can’t give them snow, I can give them a little bit of magic in a different way.
So, we made snowmen. And drank hot cocoa. And read all those wintry stories still on our shelves. A little bit of wintry magic right here in sunny northern California.
No matter what winter looks like where you are, these clay snowman mug buddies are a festive way to celebrate the season.
You Will Need
Polymer Clay (FIMO or Sculpey) – White, Orange and Black
Baking Tray
Oven
What To Do
Start by separating the package of clay into three smaller chunks – small, medium and large.
Using your hands, gently roll the clay into balls.
Once you have a good-sized indentation in the bottom of the largest ball, and it rests snug and sturdy on the edge, remove it from the side of the mug.
Add the medium and small balls to the top of the large ball gently but firmly. You want to make sure that you preserve the shape of the indentation.
Using the black and orange clay, decorate your snowman.
Place your snowman on a baking tray. Then, following the package instructions, bake your snowman to cure and dry the clay.
Remove from the oven and let cool.
Brew a cup of tea or hot cocoa, fill your mug, and set your mug buddy on the rim! Enjoy!
