10 Questions

Happy Monday everyone! I don’t often participate in these sorts of things, but Fox & Gypsy recently tagged me for the Liebster award and I thought their questions sounded fun so here I go! :)

1. What are the five things that you always carry in your bag?
My phone, sketchbook, pens, wallet, and keys. I’m boring and try to keep my purse contents minimal because I switch bags so often.

2. Who or what is your biggest inspiration?
I like the idea of lots of little inspirations for different aspects of your life rather than one or two giant inspirations–that just sets yourself up for disappointment and puts other people on too-high pedestals. Inspiration is overrated anyway. It’s best to just do your best with little comparison!

I will say that illustration-wise, Kali Ciesemeier always motivates me to work harder and look at the world with different eyes. Fashion-wise, after looking at Keiko Lynn, Blaire Eadie, Nicolette Mason, and Gabi Gregg, I always want to try new things and better represent myself!

3. What’s your hidden talent?
Hmm… most of my talents involve making things so I do the opposite of hiding them! I think I’m good at reading people and being empathetic. I can usually understand both sides to any argument and find it difficult to completely demonize or romanticize any one person.

4. What are you wearing as you type this?
Freckled off-white H&M t-shirt, mint pleated skirt from American Apparel, Moonbeam necklace by Miriam Designs, and two of my most worn items: braided leather belt and Minnetonka moccasins

5. What was the last item you bought?
My answer to this question will always be food related. Haha. Yesterday’s lunch at Fozzie’s! Turkey club with a diet coke and parmesan chips. :)

6. How long have you been blogging?
I’ve been blogging on some platform since I was about 14 years old, but Creature Type is my most consistent attempt. It’s been three years here already! Yikes.

7. As a child, what did you want to be “when you grew up”?
Always some kind of artist. Most notably an animator or art teacher. There was a brief period when I wanted to be an opera singer. Tragically I’m completely tone deaf.

8. What’s going to be your big fall purchase?
Maaayyybe a Kate Spade bag that I’ve had open in a browser window for several days… but it should be a new coat! I’m obsessed with this pleated Tory Burch coat.

9. What’s your biggest fear?
This is a total downer, but because I’m an only child, I constantly worry about the burden of caring for my parents as they get older.

10. What are your hobbies besides blogging?
It’s pretty hard for me to differentiate between work and hobbies these days. I often hear that awful voice in my head that’s notorious for killing creativity: “Why are you doing this if you can’t turn it into a money-making opportunity?” I know, I know… it’s the worst. Do any of you guys who sell artwork, crafts, vintage, or handmade things feel this way when you try to do something just for yourself?

Anyway, as far as hobbies go, I’d like to be better gardener and interior decorator! :)
