On one of my walks I chanced upon the former residence of Yin Hai-Kuang (殷海光故居), philosophy professor and a pioneer of liberalism in Taiwan. Known for his criticism of the KMT regime, Yin Hai-Kuang was banned from teaching at the National Taiwan University and kept under close surveillance by the secret service until his death in 1969.
More than 40 years later, his former residence is now a historic building and opened to visitors. I did not take any photographs inside the house but what a wonderful thing it must be for the heart, to live amongst the trees, even if the body is not free.
