Diva Dogs Day

Now this is a post that if you asked me only a year ago, I never imagined that i'd be writing.
You see, for as long as I can remember I've had an irrational fear of dogs. I say irrational, because I've never actually had a bad experience with a dog. I think it was just the entire excited/jumping/barking aspect of a dog's behaviour that made me a little bit wary.

So you can only imagine my horror when my Mum said, about 9 months ago now, that she really wanted to get a puppy. Now it wasn't a decision we took lightly (me especially!), my Mum researched into everything and anything canine related - which is really important, especially if you're a first time puppy owner! At first I was really wary of bringing a dog into our home & lives, but somehow my Mum wore me down, and I guess it was when I first saw this little face, that my heart melted just a tiny bit...
(there she is, squashed somewhere between her bed, wearing her little bow in her hair!)
This is Darcy. An 8 month old lhasa apso/bichon frise cross. She's so cute that she makes me want to just 'awwwww' for about a hundred years everytime I look into her big brown eyes.

I wouldn't say it was instant, but now my dog phobia has pretty much disappeared completely! When I take her on walks now, I'll happily stroke and meet other adorable puppies and dogs, and instead of taking one look and walking briskly in the other direction, I actually take the time to stroke & pet them. I think my fear has disappeared from understanding dogs more, and knowing that when they're all bouncing up at me, barking and crazy - it's not anything to worry about. They're just excited to see you, and if you stay calm, they'll calm down enough so that you can start to enjoy their company.

And so, me and Darcy lived happily ever after... Or something a little less lame than that.
(admittedly I look about 1,000 times happier than her there, but I think she was half asleep!)
But this isn't just a blog post about me and little Darcy. You see, we live in Essex, a place where glamour is for everyone... even our canine friends. Chelmsford is home to a certain boutique, especially for dogs, but with all the glitz and glam you'd expect if you were shopping for yourself - Diva Dogs.
Now, Darcy does tend to opt for a more natural look 99% of the time, but she wouldn't be without her crystallised colour from Diva Dogs, and the occasional bow in her hair! She has even recently started adopting some of the very latest trends for Winter..
Autumn/Winter '12 - Houndstooth print as seen on the Henry Holland catwalk, anyone?!
So of course, when me and my Mum discovered Diva Dogs day, an event happening in Stapleford Abbots in Essex on the 30th September, we knew that our little diva would fit right in. With a variety of stalls ranging from those selling adorable little accessories for our perfect pooches, to all the latest grooming shampoo products, and even treats such as the cute little puppy cupcakes sold in the Diva Dogs store... because why should we be the only ones to be able to enjoy cupcakes?!
Hailed as the 'Doggy event of the year', even including a puppy chocolate fountain, a shopping mall, and with many classes & shows to enter your dog for, it sounds like it's going to be a glamourous day out for you and your Diva Dog!
You're sure to find something there to bring out the little inner diva in your doggie!
