Though a bit touristy, the biggest chocolaterie in the world is still an amazing place to go for chocolate lovers. Fassbender and Rausch (pronounced raush, with the au having the same sound as ou in ‘house’) is located around the picturesque Gendarmenmarkt, another must see in Berlin.

In the ground floor they have their chocolate shop where you can find all manner of chocolates.

You can get good quality baking chocolates too, aside from their pralines and other treats.

I am always in awe of their magnificent chocolate creations on display. Take a look at the detail on the chariots of Brandenburg Gate!

The Titanic

The Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, a famous landmark of West berlin.

On the second floor is a cafe. When we entered we saw this lady giving out samples of their pralines.

The only feedback for improvements is on is having a system to handle guests waiting to be seated. Someone told us to wait for a seat and as we were waiting to be seated, other guests were just walking in. In the end we just walked in and found ourselves a table like the rest of them. Aside from that, we enjoyed catching up over dessert and delicious tea. Don’t they look scrumptious?

It was back in 1863 that Heinrich Fassbender opened a confectionery store at Mohrenstrasse 10, whose chocolates would eventually be regarded as fine enough to supply the royal court. In 1918, Wilhelm Rausch, the son of a chocolatier, also set up a shop in Berlin that was so successful that he opened seven more – the business was later managed by his three children.

In 1999, these two Berlin based chocolate making families came together to become Fassbender & Rausch Chocolatiers at the Gendarmenmarkt.
