How To Shop A Sample Sale

This post should really be entitled, “How To Survive A Sample Sale” as that’s a more accurate representation of what’s going to go down.

Preparation for taking on a sample sale is almost as important as the sale itself. With a few little tips I’ve found helpful at past sales, you can make the most of your time on the floor to secure the best purchases for your closet!

Minimize. Bring a thin, small crossbody or belt bag. You can try items on over the bag and won’t have to hassle with setting it down or it getting in the way.

Dress appropriately. My go-to sale look is a pair of thin pants, flat boots, a tank, a long duster cardigan, and a leather jacket. Whip that cardi/jacket combo off and you’ve got the perfect blank canvas to try anything on.

Bring a friend. Swap sizes and preferences before you go. Two fashionistas on a mission are better than one. Thanks, Jessica!

Do your research. The second you walk in you’re going to spot a Vince coat that’s on sale from $800 to $300, think it’s the greatest deal of the century, and snap it up in less than 24 seconds. High five, you. These impulse purchases will happen. It’s the nature of the beast. And there’s nothing wrong with that. There’s no way to plan what kind of items will be at these kind of sales. HOWEVER. That doesn’t mean you can’t be prepared. This is a great opportunity to fill in those gaps in your closet – within reason. DON’T necessarily stock up on blouses for work. DO look into a pair of leather boots you’ve been lusting after for the colder months ahead.

Go easy on the makeup. No one wants to purchase an item that has your Chanel Ivory liquid foundatin smeared across every part of it. Take it down a notch. Reader tip from Maggie.
