A Daily Bit of Who 38 #doctorwhosewalong THANK YOU!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Just 2 more days of the Doctor Who Sew Along to go!

Doctor Who.....I cannot thank you enough. I know this isn't going make sense to most people, it's just a tv show....but it's been there all my life, it was that constant cosy safe family time as a little kid on Saturday nights, all together engaged in the same love and the same stories. It was there in my dreams, helping me write mad fantasy stories in English lessons, expanding my view of the world and of possibilities. It was there in the playground, with my friends all arguing if they were going to be Leela or Romana, when all I wanted to be was the Doctor.

I saw this the other day and retweeted it, I didn't have it as bad as this guy, but I can understand his love for the show.

Doctor Who was there when I was married and had kids and we could sit down together and thrill at the new stories, and get hugs from Goth Child and Melchett when they were small and enjoying being frightened by the monsters. Without a doubt, when Mr D asked me to move to America with him, the sense of adventure the Doctor instilled in me as a child and the 'life's too short, you need to get out there and grab all the epxeriences you can' mentality Christopher Ecclestone's 9th Doctor embodied influenced my 'why not!'

It was there when I started being a burlesque performer.....the very first act I worked on was a Doctor Who one, about a shy retiring girl turning into the love of her life, a Dalek....all to the music of Barry White....though I doctor'd it (hoho) to be My First, My Last, Exterminate.

Thank you to everybody involved.

Thanks to the BBC, to all the Doctors, to all the companions, to the people suffering in monster suits and make-up, to all the writers, producers, Heads of Drama, all the production crew, all the special effects wranglers, to the incredible costume designers and wardrobe departments, to the the drivers and cateen staff, to EVERYONE who has brought this wonderful programme to us for 50 years.

Thank you to my Mum and Dad for letting me watch it when I was little and way too scared of the Daleks, the Cybermen, the scary spidery things that came out of watermelons, and for calming me after my nightmares about the Hand of Fear.

Thank you to Mr D and Goth Child and Melchett for sharing my Doctor Who obsession and being willing to go off on mad-cap related journeys to Cardiff and Lake Silencio.

I found this video for today by Wildcat Media. If you click over to her description of why she put together this compilation.....well, most of you know I live with mental health illness and what she writes totally resonates with me, as did the brilliant episode 'Vincent and the Doctor' and especially the Doctor's observation:

"The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. Hey. (hugs Amy),

The good things don't always soften the bad things, but vice-versa, the bad things don't necessarily spoil the good things and make them unimportant".

Doctor Who has provided so many things for my pile of good things.

Here's Wildcat Media's Pile of Doctor Who Good Things :) Thank you for this Wildcat Media, and I hope today you have a good day.

Someone else would like to express his thanks too:

And thank you for everyone who reads my blog, whether you lurk or tell me you're there.....thank you for putting up with my obsession for the past 38 days, there's some 'normal' Christmassy posts coming next week as well as a big round-up of everything being made for the Doctor Who Sew Along.......Thanks for being there for me :) Now, if you're American......go eat that turkey!
