2013 In Film: My Most Anticipated Movies Part 1
Okay, so there are some seriously good films coming out this year. I’ve been reading far too many updates and watched more trailers than is probably considered healthy.
I’ve *somehow* whittled it down to my top 5, and the next best 10. But fear not… I’ve broken this post down into 2 different parts, so as to hopefully keep you lot from getting bored!
Today we’ll look at my 5 favourites. A couple of these were easy for me, for the others I had to really try and be picky… You’re lucky really, this post almost contained about 30 films.
Right, lets start…
1. Man Of Steel – 14th June 2013
All right, who’s surprised this ones here? No one? I thought so. Not only does this film feature my future husband as the hero himself (shut up), but it also has my favourite composer Hans Zimmer behind the musical wheel. Already this film can do no wrong! The trailer had me hooked in seconds. Giving the audience a glimpse of the action; what looks to be stunning special effects and a sneak-peak at the soundtrack, I could literally not be more excited. I actually plan to take the day off and watch it at the IMAX. All day. I kid you not.
On a serious note – with Chris Nolan as the Producer, you know that this film won’t disappoint. His reinvention of Batman was stunning and I don’t doubt for a second he will have worked his magic on this cinematic production. The cast looks amazing, from Russell Crowe to Kevin Costner. No expense has been spared it seems, where acting ability is concerned.
On a serious note – with Chris Nolan as the Producer, you know that this film won’t disappoint. His reinvention of Batman was stunning and I don’t doubt for a second he will have worked his magic on this cinematic production. The cast looks amazing, from Russell Crowe to Kevin Costner. And as if that wasn’t enough… have you SEEN Henry Cavill in his Superman suit? MERCY.
2. Star Trek Into Darkness – 17th May 2013
I have been waiting for this film for SUCH a long time! 4 years! FOUR. YEARS.
The exact plot has been kept really quiet on this one; much to my annoyance. But seeing as it has Benedict Cumberbatch, one of my favourite actors, in it as the BAD GUY, you just know it’s going to be a film to remember. Again, as above, the trailer was done brilliantly. Using Benedict’s deep, penetrating voice as the narrator, paired with an equally attention-grabbing soundtrack (Michael Giacchino), which has been edited to perfection with clips of intense action and emotion, you know this is going to be one of the films of this year. J.J. Abrams, you sly dog, I think you may have surpassed yourself again.
With the same cast as the first instalment, plus a few shiny new faces, I can’t wait to see where this story takes us. I am willing to bet that the special effects will leave us all drooling, especially if the first is anything to go by. This will definitely be my ‘Birthday Celebration’. I may even dress up. As Spock.

3. Iron Man 3 – 26th April 2013
Again, this is probably another unsurprising choice. I only actually realised this was coming out this year a little while ago. And I’m most pleased it is. I’ve missed the brilliant and witty Tony Stark. Shane Black has written and directed the film and with the likes of the Lethal Weapon script under his belt, you know there will be some great fun moments with many of Mr S’s one-liners.
However, something tells me this film will perhaps be more ‘serious’ and ‘epic’ than the previous 2. The trailer (another expertly made piece with impeccable timing, might I add) is very dark and tells a powerful story of how Iron Man’s world is destroyed at every turn and how he must survive and fight back at what looks like one of his most difficult enemies to date.
The Avengers was a good film, but I have to say I’m glad to see that Iron Man is back flying solo. If the trailer is anything to go by, the action and CGI will be incredible. Not to mention, Sir Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin. That I can’t wait to see!
I just hope Pepper Potts doesn’t die. I’ll be most displeased if she does.

4. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire – 22nd November 2013
Ahhh Why is this coming out in November?! That’s far too long to wait!
I’m really looking forward to this one. I was apprehensive of the first as I hoped it would remain loyal to the books rather that ‘Hollywood’ and I was really happy with the result. Jennifer Lawrence was made for the role of Katniss Everdeen; she was superb. Of course the film had to leave out a lot of the book’s detail, but she still managed to encapsulate the dark character of the protagonist perfectly.
So this film is the second of the three books. I am really curious as to how they plan to fit the story in to just a few hours. Each book gets more and more detailed; the storyline intricate and complex. I haven’t seen a trailer available yet and I’m hoping that although the original director, Gary Ross, has passed on the sequel, that Francis Lawrence will still do it justice. If he remains loyal to the books and the previous style, I’ve no doubt that it will be a hit. It’s definitely one I can’t wait to see.

5. The Hobbit The Desolation Of Smaug – 13th of December 2013
Oh God. Another long wait. I’ve heard mixed reviews about the first film, but as a huge fan of both the book and Martin Freeman, I really enjoyed it. At first I hated the idea of spreading the one book into 3 separate films, but now I’m glad that was the decision. The Hobbit is a beautifully written story with compelling detail that deserves to be acknowledged in film format. I’ve no doubt it will be another stunning piece of cinema with the costume and set design, like that on Lord of the Rings, being some of my favourite. I’ve also read that both Stephen Fry and Billy Connelly will be in the film too… very intriguing!

Although these 5 might seem like obvious choices, the competition was seriously rife. I was so close to picking the likes of Cloud Atlas, Lincoln and yes, even the Lana Partridge movie (seriously).
I’ve no doubt they will feature heavily in Part 2, but for now, I hope you enjoyed my ramblings!
