Life At Lipsy

Wow, has it really been over two weeks?? Where has the time gone! I’ve technically only worked at Lipsy now for 9 days, but the amount I’ve already learnt is huge. I still feel ‘new’; it always takes me a little while to settle in to a job. Being an introvert, I need a good month to feel comfortable enough to openly be myself. That being said, I feel really at ease and happy around the E-commerce team and I’m really looking forward to getting to know them better.

As for the job… I absolutely LOVE it. As a Junior Digital Designer, I don’t have the same experience and skills as my two colleagues – but the brilliance of this position is that I’m being TAUGHT. It’s a bit hectic in the office at the moment due to the upcoming Lipsy VIP Awards, but when things settle down I will have more of an opportunity to talk through what I want to learn and what areas I want more experience in. The Digital team built, in about 3 days, a micro-site from scratch. The coding, the JavaScript, the CSS. I’m absolutely in awe, it’s incredible! It’s this that I want to learn. I consider myself extremely lucky to be in a job that is willing to teach and help it’s employees. It’s not a gift I’ll take lightly!

As for the work I’ve done already, I’ve created social media graphics, website spreads, which are already featured on Next and Lipsy, food cards and other printed materials for the upcoming VIP awards at the end of the May. I’ve included a few bits and pieces of what I’ve done below!

As for the Office, it’s such a cool and wonderful place to be every day. Working around Oxford Circus is immersing me, a town-y, into a whole new culture. I’ve signed up for Pilates classes, which I start tomorrow and am really looking forward to! There’s the Lipsy Summer party coming up in July, which is all I know about it at the moment. One day we had hot dogs in the office, another sweets and ice-cream! I’ve sampled numerous Thai restaurants and cafés with the team, as well as pubs on my first Friday at the company. This time next year, I expect to know London like the back of my hand!

The journey to and from work, is an hour and a half each way. But you know what? The travel and the fact that I have to be up at six in the morning, doesn’t bother me. I get to read one of my many books and end up at a job I love. I value my weekends a lot more, sure, but I wouldn’t change anything. If the first 9 days are anything to go by, this job will be the making of both my career and my future! I’m hoping to move to London in the future as I love the city life-style, hopefully it’ll be sooner rather than later!

I’ll leave it there for now, but, as with Benefit Cosmetics, I will keep you all up to date on my progress as I make my way through the coming weeks and months. I’m only 2 weeks in to my career and I’m already more optimistic than I’ve ever been!
