Ultimate Coffee Date – March 2015

Happy March my friends… since today is the first Saturday of the month, I’m linking up with the lovely hosts of the Ultimate Coffee Date. So – grab some coffee and let’s catch up.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that 2 weeks ago, I decided it was time to start tracking my food again. After a lifetime of a disordered relationship with the scale, I have found myself in a good place mentally – but, as I talked about recently, some bad habits have been creeping their way back into my life. It was time to break the cycle. So, I busted out My Fitness Pal and have been dutifully logging away. It’s really so simple – I pack my lunch and snacks for work and then while I eat breakfast, I log in the food for the day. It’s a helpful reminder to me to not grab mindless snacks and to also remind myself that I eat a good amount of food each day and dinner can still be small.

Today is day 12 and I feel great. That initial water weight feels gone and I feel my pants getting a little roomier. However, yesterday I made the mistake of getting on the scale. (Note to self: you’re not over your bad relationship with that thing.) I didn’t weigh myself when I started, but I did get on the scale last Friday. I was actually surprised at the number, it was 3-4 lbs less than I thought it would be. And only 8-9 from a good healthy range. Back to yesterday… the scale didn’t budge this week. Nothing. Nada. Exactly the same as last Friday. Grrr.

Okay, but that’s not the point, right? I’m not trying to lose a ton of weight where it will all fall off quickly at the beginning. And it’s not about the number on the scale, right? It’s about being healthy and balance and all that. I’ve enjoyed a date night out one night and some wine here and there and really feel a good balance. I bought some shorts at the store the other day and they’re the same size I always get and they’re also kind of roomy. (sorry, this is me preaching to me here for a minute)

So – new plan. DITCH the damn scale. It doesn’t matter. I love what the guys on the old Fat 2 Fit Radio used to say, “no one walks around with the number plastered on their forehead”. It doesn’t matter. It’s about being healthy and feeling good.

Okay, so this really is what I do on coffee dates IRL. I get on a roll and just keep talking and talking. So, I’ll stop now and move on to lighter topics.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I just found out I got selected to be a LiveBlogger at Fitbloggin 15!!! OMG, I’m so excited. After going to Fitbloggin in 2013, I missed it last year. I was really torn about if I could make it happen this year and then my Ragnar ladies started hounding me to go. I applied to be a LiveBlogger so that I could give back to the tribe a little bit and also to help myself with the costs. I found out last week that I was selected! YAY!!!! Stay tuned for the antics of the crazy fun weekend. Oh – and not only am I so excited to see my favorite bloggers for the weekend, but Shannon is bringing Sir Burpee and I’m dying to meet that adorable puppy in person. Seriously, I think I’m more excited to see him than anyone else (don’t tell my blogger friends ;-0)

If we were having coffee, I’d ask if you’ve been to Fitbloggin and if you’re thinking about going this year.

Speaking of Fitbloggin, if we were having coffee, I would ask you if you’ve been listening to the WYCWYC podcast? Roni (the mind behind Fitbloggin) and Carla (one of my other most favorite bloggers that I was so happy to meet at Fitbloggin 13) wrote a book called “What You Can, When You Can” and flash the #wycwyc gang signs all around town (pronounced “wick-wick”). Anyway, you all know I’m a huge podcast fan and listening to these two inspiring ladies is like having coffee with your friends every week. Seriously, go and listen, it’s on iTunes and they publish weekly. You’ll be so motivated to choose healthy habits and to not get down on yourself for not achieving someone else’s definition of perfect. Go. Now. Download. Listen.

Okay – my coffee is long gone… it’s time to wrap things up. While this post went on much longer than a typical brief catch up coffee date, I guess I was just bursting at the seams for a chat and used this link up as motivation to blog. So, thank you for stopping by and be sure to visit some of the other blogs that have linked up. Thanks Coco, Debora and Lynda for hosting!
