Three Williams, Redfern – Yeah! Brunch!

Fish croquettes. Hello little guys!

The merchant. Put that right into your face.

Making poached eggs a little bit fancier with prosciutto and avocado.

The menu – don’t take this as the absolute truth as this changes.

Making the coffee (please just make it a little faster!)

But when I do get my coffee, I’m happy.

My favourite – prawn narnie on house made flatbread.

The pineapple and mint house made soda feat. cool straw.

Cakes and things. Not pictured: DONUTS!

Designed by the same guys who did Berta and Ester – Anthony Gill Architects.

Aaaaand another cafe enters the scene. This pleases me for a number of reasons:

  1. I don’t have to travel far from my house
  2. I’m hoping that by having more cafes the weekend brunchers will be dispersed more evenly across Surry/Redfern cafes (although I doubt it)
  3. I like brunch, so the more places that serve it the better

Come to Three Williams for a weekend brunch and you will most likely be waiting for a seat. Such is the curse of the full time worker’s life (read: mine). Fortunately, you don’t usually* have to wait long because there are plenty of tables in this large concrete space. Plus you can always pass some time gazing longingly at beautiful furniture at Great Dane or Tait next door.

*Well, you may have to wait up to 40 minutes, like I once did, so don’t go there hangry or hungover.

We get the fish croquettes because (a) from all accounts they are delicious and (b) they come in cute little cardboard egg containers. They are crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and the aioli tastes so good with the fish. We’re off to a good start.

The narnies are popular here with my favourite being the prawn with tahini, hummus and sumac ($15) but word about town says that the glazed beef brisket is a winner too. The house made flatbread is solid enough so the fillings don’t sog up the bread and make the whole thing fall apart but soft enough that it has that lovely doughy feel that I love so much. 100% would get again. 200% wish I had this now.

Coffee here is very slow to come. This isn’t a one off thing, this is an every time I’ve been here thing. Kind of annoying but the food makes up for it. Their house made pineapple and mint soda is sweet and refreshing. Apparently they roast the pineapples which helps give it a different taste.

The merchant is your classic bacon and egg roll but done so much better. Encased by a brioche roll a chilli fried egg, crispy bacon, slaw and ranch dressing work solidly together to remove any kind of hunger and/or hangover you may be sporting.

Poached eggs on toast with a side of prosciutto and avocado is simple and takes me to a happy breakfast place. Even the gluten free bread they use is excellent – doesn’t look, feel or taste like gluten free bread at all. Note: I didn’t order the gluten free bread but would consider it next time because of how good it was.

If you haven’t already been there, Three Williams is a great place to check out for brunch. If you’ve already been there then you know what I’m talking about.
