Hot Nights

I might be off to the snowy slopes of the Alps on Sunday but my heart, and jewellery collection, has its sights firmly set on not-so-distant trips to warmer climes.

In the winter, I tend to look to simple, minimal silver jewellery that feels a bit more utilitarian and puritanical but is much more flattering on greying winter skin. But come Spring, my taste firmly turns back to rose and yellow gold, envisioning it glinting against equally golden skin and bleached split ends. I love layering up coloured ‘thread’ bracelets too. Kind of like friendship bracelets for grown-ups they look all kinds of wonderful with a bikini and I normally come back from trips with an armful of the things. Some of them might only last till the end of the summer before the salt water cuts right through but they’re worth it while they last.

Frida Kahlo and flamenco dancers always inspire my summer jewellery too; I feel naked without at least one pair of gold hoops and like layering up a solid gold collar or choker with my staple delicate chains after dark.

For now, I’m making do with Tom Ford’s latest take on the Italian Riviera and pieces of discarded coral picked up from Sri Lanka to transport me somewhere exotic. But the details are all waiting in the wings….
