CHEAP Makeup Storage and Organization at IKEA

I got rid of a lot of clutter when I moved into our new apartment, including a lot of old makeup that I had stuffed away in tons of little storage boxes. When I lived in Brooklyn, I never came close to using all of my makeup because (1) I didn’t know where anything was, and (2) it was such a pain to go through all those boxes that I never knew what I had at any given point in time.

After moving and deciding what I wanted to keep in my makeup collection, I knew I had to come up with a better way to store everything. After getting some great ideas online (this makeup organization post by Lipstick With Some Sunshine was really inspirational), I started looking around for acrylic drawers for my makeup. Quentin bought me this MALM 6-Drawer Chest for our bedroom (look for it on Craigslist), and I bought this SUPER CHEAP acrylic makeup storage box with compartments from IKEA to go inside it (it’s only $18).

Organizing everything and storing it where I can see it easily has made ALL the difference in how I apply my makeup. It’s so much easier for me to use all my makeup, which makes getting ready to go somewhere a lot more fun. I now remember to wear primer because I know where mine is, I use the right brushes for putting on my eyeshadow because they’re all right in front of me, and it’s helped me save money. Because I really have no good reason to buy anymore makeup because I have SO MUCH OF IT right here (although that didn’t stop me from buying this Sephora mascara, which is magic for my lower lashes).

SN: I’m sure you saw that I’m a bit weird about buying the same things over and over and over…once I find something I like (like Maybelline’s Color Elixir Lip Gloss, or my Wet-n-Wild brow pencils), I just stick to it. I mean, if it ain’t broke…
