Food :: Spotlight, Mimi Thorisson: Chef, Blogger, Author, Wife and Mother

If there was ever a person’s life to be envious of, it would be of Mimi Thorisson’s. The daughter of a French mother and Chinese father, Mimi, married to Oddur Thorisson, moved from Paris to the country-side of Médoc, north of Bordeaux, in the fall of 2010 when they realized they wanted to live the life of being on vacation everyday. Food always being the centre of Mimi’s upbringing, she started blogging about her life in Médoc shortly after moving there. She credits the success of her blog – as well as her French TV show, La Table de Mimi, and her new cookbook, A Kitchen in France: A Year of Cooking in my Farmhouse to the nostalgic appeal of Médoc itself. With five children and a small army of smooth Fox Terriers running freely in the country side, preparing seasonal foods and documenting her encounters with local farmers, shop and restaurant owners, it really is a dream life. The couple have recently purchased a lovely stone villa and have been renovating it, so that this summer they hope to open a pop-up restaurant on the ground floor, where Mimi will cook for guests. She will also host culinary workshops for small groups, shopping with them at the markets, cooking together, and sending the visitors off on bike trips and wine adventures.

My favourite recipes from Mimi are this healthy, spirit-lifting Ginger Rice, hearty Cheese and Tarragon Omelette and comforting Carrot and Ginger soup (the recipe is not yet posted to the recipe section of her blog, which is why I linked to the post. Do take time to read the post, it made me cry). Lastly, it should be noted that all the gorgeous photography is taken by her husband, Oddur. The bio of his instagram account cheekily reads: Living with smooth fox terriers, lovely children and her.
