Discontinuing Sales to the European Union

As those of you in the European Union probably know, there are new regulations effective January 1 that require all sellers, regardless of where they are located, to collect and pay sales tax on EU sales of PDF downloads. Unfortunately, this means that I have decided to discontinue sales of my patterns to customers in the EU, effective January 1, 2015.

I am so sad about this decision, I really am! I considered many solutions to this mess, including just ignoring the new law (since I suspect it's mostly unenforceable to those of us not in the EU), but unfortunately this seems to be my most reasonable path. I had a lovely time in Europe last summer and would like to go back there again someday without having to worry about unpaid taxes. : ) Hopefully they'll get this mess straightened out and add some exemptions for micro-businesses such as mine—if/when that happens, I'll be sure to add back EU functionality immediately.

And in the meantime, EU peeps can still buy my patterns for the next two weeks or so! So if you've been eyeing one, you've got 13 days to snap it up before it becomes unavailable! Click here to visit my shop.

Finally, just because I can't have a post without a picture, here's an Instagram photo of my studio Christmas tree, which I finally decorated the other day. Happy holidays to all of you, wherever you are in the world. : )

EDITED TO ADD: A few people have mentioned Patterns to Print as a possible way for me to continue selling to the EU—I am taking a close look at that! Regardless, unless the EU offers a full exemption for small businesses before Jan. 1, my BigCartel shop will no longer be selling to customers in the EU as of then. I will let you all know if I begin selling through an alternative outlet such as Patterns to Print.
