Spice Up Your Winter Wardrobe

Just because it’s winter and the weather is drab doesn’t mean your outfit has to suffer as well. In fact, it’s the perfect opportunity to stand out. Incorporating prints into your outfit is a great place to start. Staying warm is key but picking a sweater with a pendleton or navajo print does double duty of adding color and an interesting pattern to an often plain piece. You’ll usually find these patterns in more earth tone colors but sometimes they can be bright. Just don’t get too crazy. If you want to add some color, prints and patterns are definitely an easy way to sneak them in. You can also wear a brighter colored button up under a sweater for a small pop.

Another easy way to spice up your outfit is with a scarf, tie, or bow tie. These little accent pieces, like a sweater, can have bright colors and cool and fun prints. The scarf also helps keep you warm! Don’t be afraid to mix different colors and patterns between pieces but try to stay in the same color palette so it brings a cohesive look to everything. A faux fur lined hood on a parka is a fun way to add texture to your look. Plus it’ll keep you warm when those big gusts come out of nowhere. If you’re looking for more pieces to play two roles then try some over-the-ear headphones. You can listen to your tunes, or podcast, or audiobook in quiet all while keeping your ears covered and warm. Pretty nifty. Especially if you just want to block out all the noise on your loud commute. I know that’s half the reason I wear my headphones. You can also keep them around your neck as an accent when you aren’t listening to anything.

Lastly, channel your inner Ryan Gosling a la Drive and give some leather driving gloves a try. You’ll keep your hands warm and be able to make quick get aways. Always be on the lookout for opportunities to spice up a look in not so obvious ways. Outfits, especially in winter, work best when they combine function and style.
