A Dressing Table Update.

Nothing pleases me more than having a nice tidy makeup table – I love clean brushes organised nicely, my daily essentials within reach and my makeup drawer streamlined so everything fits perfectly. Of course, things can get a little out of hand sometimes which is when I tend to rearrange everything and generally have a clear out.

My current set up is quite bare, I would say – some would call it cluttered perhaps! I guess it’s not too bad, I fight the urge to have everything sitting on it but it’s not entirely practical. I made a marble tray using a box lid (tutorial here), and I use this to keep everything tidy. I love stacking things on trays, it looks so cute and really sets off the area. I emptied out a couple of candle jars and used these to store my brushes. To do this (I know you guys were asking for my tips!) I tend to do it straight after the candle is finished so the wax is warm. I tip the remaining wax out on to some cardboard in the bin and then use a couple of paper towels to quickly wipe out the rest before it cools. Then I run the hot tap and use a bit of fairy liquid and a cloth or brush to clean out the rest. Easy peasy!

Also on the tray I have a perfume or two and a couple of pretty items I use everyday. It just adds to the whole table I feel, rather than it looking bare.

I use an acrylic organiser that I got from TK MAXX to keep my everyday items together. Mainly lipsticks and cream shadows are kept here, but I’ll also use the MUJI one drawer underneath for odd bits and bobs that don’t have a place. It’s a nice way to keep pretty lipsticks on display too, I feel.

I picked up some postcards and washi tape from Paperchase just to put on the wall to make it a bit more interesting – there’s kind of a pink, mint, gold and marble feel happening which I love!

What do you think of this set up?
