Shopping: Wedding Shoes

Last month, a friend asked me to recommend a pair of good shoes for her to wear for her upcoming wedding. Oh, before I tell you the rest of the story, I have to briefly give a little bit of information about this friend: she originally comes from China, studied in the U.S., and now she is settled down in the U.S. as a pretty successful artist. We both come from China, so we know about the Chinese Culture. We both might have adjusted ourselves to the Western lifestyle and we believe we have “modern” and “open” minds, but when we discuss what kind of shoes to choose, there are still couple limits that we both agree with.

上个月，一位同住在洛杉矶的朋友说是要回中国举办婚礼，让我推荐一双好穿的婚鞋。这位朋友原籍也是中国，来美国念书，现在在洛杉矶定居，是一个小有成就的画家。因为大家都是中国人，所以对中国文化并不陌生，虽说两人现在对西方文化接触也比较深和多，而且也还算是现代人。但两个人在谈起在婚鞋上的选择，有些禁忌大家不信，却又不得不防。

Red and gold are the best colors for sure, because they are lucky colors in China.

红色和金色是最好颜色选择，因为这在中国是富贵之色。

High heels are a must, since she will wear a beautiful gown that requires some extra height.

鞋跟要高，因为这位朋友的婚服很长很仙。

Comfort is the most important thing — come on, I think almost every girl knows that feeling of her feet being killed by high heels shoes!

最重要的当然还是要好走。女生们可能都知道，鞋不合脚，那种要死的感觉。

We were discussing the Valentino Rockstudded heels — they are really good looking and easy to walk in, but then she has a point: there are too many “studs”(do they mean there might bring some “hard points” and issues and trouble in the future marriage?)….You can call that Feng Shui, or Mixin (superstition), but in a very important event like this, we still take it very seriously and try to avoid that.

我们当时想到了华伦天奴的柳钉鞋，大家一致觉得这鞋很漂亮，高跟的款走路也舒服。但是这位朋友提到了：“就是钉子太多。”言下之意，怕以后婚姻遇钉子。这种说法有点迷信，但是很多人婚礼一生只有一次，能防就防着点喽。

Oh, I forgot to tell you, I saw that Chinese artist friend a couple days ago, and I asked her what shoes she ended up wearing at the wedding. She said, “It was those golden shoes from Zara, they are super comfortable. I had no problem all day with them, and it was a wonderful wedding!”

对了，忘了和你说，前两天又见到了那位艺术家朋友，我问她在婚礼上最后穿的是哪双鞋子。她告诉我说以下图片的这款Zara家的鞋子。还说非常舒服好走，一点问题都没有。

So, at the end, my final recommendation is that you really need to try on the shoes and walk around the house before you wear them for your wedding; choose the most comfortable ones, and forget about the brand and price — on that most important day, you need to focus on all the wonderful moments, not pain!

最后我的建议，就是，婚礼中的鞋子一定要选合脚舒适，品牌价格都是其次，婚礼前几天可以穿着在家里走上几小时试穿，适脚了，再定在婚礼中穿，毕竟，这是一个这么重要和特殊的日子，美好瞬间，不该有脚痛。
