A Girlfriend Getaway In Sedona
I just returned from the sweetest girlfriend getaway in Sedona. But not just any girlfriend getaway. Most of these ladies were founding members of the USC Sirens, my all-female college a capella group. Although we live in many different states, we've remained close over the years. That's what singing, recording, touring and performing together will do for you!
I've been wanting to visit Sedona for quite some time - not only to witness its breathtaking natural beauty, but to soak up the good vibes. As you may know, the town is known as a spiritual mecca due to the area's vortexes - swirling centers of subtle energy emanating from the surface of the earth. Since becoming attuned to Reiki, I've noticed a greater sensitivity to this life force energy and was eager to experience these power spots first hand.
We decided to take a "Touch The Earth" Pink Jeep Tour to explore 3 of Sedona's mystic vortexes. It ended up being the highlight of our trip. Jenny bought us all matching pink bandanas because she's cute like that.
Sedona in February is pretty cold. Thankfully, the jeep was packed with blankets! At our final vortex, our guide Tod led us in a peaceful group meditation. We outstretched our arms, inhaling love and connection, exhaling worry and fear. We took off our shoes to feel the earth's energy rise up through the soles of our feet. Some of us sat in meditation, some of us did yoga, others simply stood quietly admiring the view. Together in solitude. It was a moment I'll never forget.
Downtown Sedona is just as alluring. At one point, we entered a metaphysical shop selling crystals, gemstones and other new age goodies. Inside we met a woman who claimed she didn't work there, yet showed us around the store as if she did. She picked up an oracle card deck, shuffled it, and asked me to select a card. This is what I instinctively chose ....

I couldn't have chosen a more perfect card at this particular time in my life. I felt it was written just for me! The woman offered the deck to Jenny, who drew the Intimacy card - one that meant a great deal to her. Our jaws dropped when the lady expanded on our cards, saying things that resonated with our current situations. She said she was channeling our higher selves. We left the store in a stupor - what just happened? Out of the blue, this random woman, who doesn't even work there, gave us a reading we didn't even ask for - telling us exactly what we needed to hear. A few moments later, the lady walked right out of the shop and continued on down the street.
Sedona is a magical place. They say that everyone who lives here is happy. Everyone smiles. People have been known to uproot their lives and move here on a whim to follow their spiritual calling and expand their consciousness. As woo woo as it may sound, there's no denying the euphoric feeling you get when you stand at the top of a red rock mountain, gazing out onto the valley below, breathing in the electrifying air. I felt love from the earth. And love from my friends. The combination is a force to be reckoned with.
