Last Minute Gifts: Hanging Treat Box Ornaments

Well, we’re down to about a week left before Christmas (cue the sobbing in the corner, I am NOT ready at ALL). Are you making your edible gifts this week? It’s on my to-do list, but I am definitely scaling back this year. Much fewer baked goods, and more no-bake, easy treats. Yesterday I shared a quick, 3-ingredient recipe for peppermint marshmallows, and today I want to share a sweet way to dress them up!

These little hanging treat boxes make great gifts for co-workers, because it’s something small enough that no one feels bad if they haven’t reciprocated. It’s just the right way to say, “I’m thinking of you!” without going overboard. And, as with most gifts, the wrapping gives a great impression!

I used my Sizzix and the Cake Pop die (affiliate link) to die-cut a couple of boxes, and kept the embellishment VERY simple. I mean, I’m all for beautiful paper crafts, but at the end of the day, food wrappings just get thrown away. It’s not like a handmade card, that people are likely to keep. For the Bigz dies, you layer your die and paper between a cutting plate and a crease pad.

Then, you only need glue in one spot to fold them up and put them together. They’re designed to accommodate a cake pop with a stick – which you can totally do! But I thought it would be cute to use the hole for a ribbon hanger, instead.

The only thing I added to decorate was a foam snowflake sticker on top. Mine didn’t have holes, initially, so I made sure to punch one before I stuck it on. Then, I just added about 12 inches of ribbon. I tied it on the inside to hold the ribbon in place.

As you can see, I bagged the marshmallows individually, first. You’d want to do that for most dipped treats anyway to keep them fresh. And if you’re not a marshmallow fan, little bags of holiday mix, or even store-bought chocolates would also be great for these small size boxes, which are about 2″ cubes with a round cutout. These can be hung on the tree alongside candy canes at home, or given as gifts to neighbors, co-workers and friends!

What kinds of treats are you making this year?
