Summer in January

Every brand has a hidden signature, which can act as an axis, running through each collection and around which the brand rotates. My first Fibi & Clo flats were an easy favorite of mine last fall, to the point where my closet lacked steady rotation, fixed instead on this single pair of shoes. It's no wonder I anticipated the new collection so strongly. Fibi & Clo brings interest to the familiar, and while the designs aren't modest by any means, they have a carefulness that allows them to accentuate any outfit. They attract the eye. They comfort the foot with a light delicacy. To me, this balance is unique. As a symptom of my intrigue, I needed to find out more about the brand and how the collections were inspired.

Fibi & Clo was founded by Texas native AnaLiza, who spent her working time between her hometown and New York City, appearing in trunk shows to strengthen Fibi & Clo's presence. Not only did this effectively expand her business, but it also enabled her to pull inspiration from two very different fashion cultures. Two of my favorites from the summer collection have to be the Alexandra sandal and the Cascade line. Similar to the Audrey Leopard flats, the Alexandra sandal speaks with a sleek sophistication--think the new Tory Burch of summertime sandals. A little less subtle and appropriately named for its smooth band of jewels complimenting the shape of the foot, the Cascade line is a romantic choice for any outing. Flashing a jeweled foot from under the dinner table, dancing along the sandy floors of a resort's club, or wandering the old-town markets with your finest Chloe sunglasses. All in all, the new collection from Fibi & Clo provides an exquisite range to accommodate any summertime wardrobe, adding a touch of carefree southern love to a New York frame of mind.
