DIY Painted Glass Dishes (House on the Way)

~Add Some Style to a Plain Glass Bowl~

Do you remember a few weeks ago when I organized my jewelry? I used some adorable small glass dishes to separate my earrings, rings and bracelets.

The organization system is working wonderfully. Everything has its place and my jewelry is nice and neat.

But then I started to wonder if I could make it better…could I add some style to my little glass dishes?

I thought so…why not create some DIY painted glass dishes.

I decided to give it a try with my favorite gold spray paint

and some dollar store dishes…

I knew that trying out the paint on some dollar tree dishes would be okay. If my idea didn’t work, I wouldn’t be out a lot of money and I wouldn’t ruin my cute little dishes for my jewelry.

This is such an easy DIY. I flipped the dishes over and gave them a light spray of the gold paint. I love the smooth finish.

After the paint dried, I was left with two of the cutest little gold dishes imaginable!

Because the paint is on the outside of the dish, I don’t have to worry about my trinkets scratching the finish.

But I didn’t stop there…

I grabbed some Chalky Finish Paint from DecoArt and made some adorable pieces for desk organization!

I chose Refreshing and Delicate for the dishes. The Chalky Finish Paint gives them a soft finish.

I used a small craft brush to apply the paint and it did take about four coats of paint to get a good coverage.

After the last coat dried, I applied Americana Soft-touch Varnish to seal and protect the paint. I brushed the varnish on with a craft brush.

I love the way the blue and yellow look through the glass. They’re perfect holders for my small desk items.

Using the spray paint is definitely the faster of the two painting methods, but I do love both finishes. Painting the glass is a beautiful way to take a plain dish and turn it into a fabulous piece for organizing your jewelry or small desk items.
