2015 blogging resolutions + updates

*Slowly crawls out from hiding* Happy New Year! How have you all been? I can’t believe I let blogging slip right out from under my nose- I’m so sorry I didn’t dedicate the necessary time and at least give you guys a quick update.

Honestly, finding a routine (one that doesn’t result in absolute exhaustion) that allows me to balance work and blogging has been difficult. It’s one of the many lessons I’m learning as I transition from student life to adult life! It’s also one of my main 2015 blogging resolutions, which I’ll get in to next.

Resolution #1:

“Making time” for blogging by getting organized

I think the biggest hurdle (for me, at least) in finding the perfect work-blog balance is just making time for blogging; as in, treating it as much of a priority as any other job. At the beginning of the summer when I started my first full-time position, I found myself struggling quite a bit and asked some of the established beauty bloggers in the Beauty Blog Coalition how they “make time” for blogging. Many of them who also held 8am-5pm jobs said the same thing: it’s important to figure out how much time you can reasonably dedicate to blogging, and then section off that time every day (or every weekend) specifically for blogging.

A few ladies recommended devoting one weekend day to getting all weekly posts scheduled and ready to go- I think this is what will be most feasible for me.

So, this means getting organized! In order to be sure I stick to a blogging schedule, I’m going to have to make it as easy and organized as possible. For 2015, I plan to:

  • Dedicate specific time on the weekends to drafting and scheduling blog posts for the following week
  • Create themed posts for specific days of the week (things like Mani Mondays, Friday Favorites, etc., but with more unique titles. I think this will help me STICK to a schedule, especially when I hit a creativity block!
  • Get myself a beauty blogging planner so I can plan out blog posts for the week, check them off when they’ve been posted, etc.

At the end of the day, my goal is to be more consistent- in terms of my posting schedule AND content that is shared.

Resolution #2:

Engage more with the beauty blogging community!

When I get busy, I have a really bad habit of failing to keep up with my favorite beauty bloggers. And that kills me! Reading beauty blogs via Bloglovin’ is seriously one of my favorite things to do, so I’m going to try to make this more of a priority in 2015.

This also extends to exploring new blogs in the community: I really want to begin a post series in which I share newly discovered bloggers. At the start of my blog, I found it super helpful to connect with other bloggers and I’d love to continue this. Blogging is just so much more fun when you do it with others! (That’s the whole point, right?)

The list is short, but that’s it as far as my blogging resolutions go! I don’t generally make too many resolutions- I know myself too well to stick to the big things (get healthier, spend less, etc.), so more specific, smaller changes seem to be more realistic. And in terms of blogging, there is ALWAYS room for improvement. I very much hope I can implement these resolutions and make 2015 a great blogging year!

What changes do you hope to make this year?

Please share in the comments- I’d love to hear your resolutions!

XOXO
