Working it out

If we are being honest, I am not the most healthy person out there. I have the eating habits of a child, I love to come home, sit down on the couch and eat chips, and really have never made time for to take care of me. My friends know my regulars at certain restaurants and my students knew my addiction to Dr. Pepper. I even had a student give me a sign for Christmas that says "this classroom runs on love, laughter, and lots of Dr. Pepper" (cute, but que the warning signs). So I knew a change needed to be made but where do you begin for someone who hates pretty much anything that's healthy for you and is NOT a runner?

August 14 of last year, I was getting ready to celebrate my 27th birthday and decided that I would start working towards one of my 30 before 30 goals of running in a race. I had never been a runner and could barely make it a quarter of a mile without stopping to catch my breath. By September 22, my motivation was gone and running took a seat in the back of the life bus. School had started back up, Michael was being sent to the border randomly, and I was staying extra busy with photography. I just "didn't have time". The time between September 22 and December 8 were some of the hardest months I've had in a while. My mind wasn't in the right place, I would come home and do absolutely nothing after school, my motivation and positivity was not on point, and I just couldn't figure out why I was feeling so blue.
I'm not sure what sparked my motivation to get back out there, but around December 8th I picked back up where I left off with my running and workouts and have hit the ground running ever since. The workouts and the running has become a part of my every day routine and my body can tell when I haven't made time to treat it right. It has been life changing to see how much my body needed to the excercise and my mind needed the break. Running has become one of my favorite ways to clear my head and I definitely don't hate the results from the extra cardio.

2015 is all about evolving. I want to evolve into a better me, which includes a healthier, more fit version of the person I am right now. It's an exciting journey and one that I hope you don't mind me sharing along the way. Do you have any tips or tricks on how to stay motivated, especially through these not so warm months ahead? I would love to hear them.
