Weekly Style: Paint Jamaica, Jamaica Festival Fashion, The Cloth & More!

Today on Weekly Style: The Cloth, Franz Christie designs & Paint Jamaica.

It’s a new week in fashion and Kingstonstyle has your fashion news on the wire. Every week we bring you the Weekly Style, giving you the latest in fashion and style news from around the globe and from style savvy Jamaicans at home and abroad. This week on Weekly Style:

- Supporting your local art scene is just one of the many ways to help develop the fashion industry because as creatives we should stick together in furthering creative development for our future. That’s why we love this street art project from Paint Jamaica taking place from now until August 6th. While there has been an overwhelming amount of support for the project, you can still get in there by visiting the volunteer page and signing up.

- In preparation for the Jamaica Festival, the festival team have shared an extensive catalog of festival styles as exemplary men’s, women’s and kid’s fashion for the upcoming events for Jamaican Independence.

- Staying positive about the downfalls of any industry can take a lot of energy, while contributing to the constant criticism can be easily slipped in to. We applaud the Grassroots Jamaica blog for their public discussion on dropping the #idontshophere hashtag that discourages people from shopping local designers. Supporting your local designer means supporting your local industry and ultimately, yourself.

- One of our favourite collections from Caribbean Fashion Week 2014 was the vibrant and colourful The Cloth collection by designer Robert Anthony Young. The collection is now being revisited by photographer Adrian Richards with emotional imagery in a lookbook for Caribbean website AcüBien.

- For all you Yahdie Conscious fans living overseas, you can get the latest sexy Desert Swim pieces, ultimately completing your summer look, by ordering through the updated YC online store.

- Growth is important for any artist. That’s why we encourage you to master your craft through education whenever possible. Local designer Franz Christie is giving budding designers that opportunity on the north coast with a four week design workshop. The classes started last week but you may still be able to hop on board and tune up your tailoring.
