THE CLUJ GUIDE: CASA BOEMA

Because many of you have asked about things to do in Cluj-Napoca, I thought I’d start a little (subjective) guide to the city. And before getting to anything else, we must discuss restaurants. Don’t worry, I won’t make you hungry with any food pics.

When I first came to this city, a bit over ten years ago, there were few to no restaurants in Cluj. Not that I cared about that – my student money was well spent on instant food and pubs. However, about five years ago, the food business started growing, and we found ourselves having choices – and nice ones, too.

Without further ado, I give you my favorite restaurant in Cluj, which is on top of my recommendations list for both food and design: Casa Boema. It’s quiet, it looks great, I love the food and they have a splendid garden in summertime.

My favorite dishes from their menu are the Chicken & Mushroom Pie and the Porcini Stew. I order them time after time because I’m so crazy about mushrooms. They also serve a beautiful pizza and paella, although the restaurant doesn’t specialize in either of the respective cuisines (that’s something very common in Romanian restaurants). I think it’s safe to order anything from the menu, really, whether you’re more into burgers or light salads. They also serve good wine and make tasty drinks (their sparkling rose syrup comes to mind as a token of hot summer days).

The gorgeous rooms and garden of the restaurant also make a great setting for outfit pictures, as you can tell from my posts here and here. At times during the day, you may find you have one of the rooms to yourself, so you can take pictures as you please (the light can be incredible).

So mark Boema on your map for when you’re in town – I’m quite certain you’re gonna love it!
