Stuff I Put On My Face (To Try Look Good)

Most of the time I don’t wear make-up, but most of the time I probably should haha #sadtoyourownface. I’ve been trying to make a bit more of an effort in ye ole face department of late, and though I’ve never considered myself much of a make-up person, I’ve acquired a surprising amount of shit I put on my face on the reg. These are the products that I’ve found work really well for me, some I bought myself, and some were sent to me, but they’re all products I’ve used consistently over the xmas/summer period and before that. Everything here are things I’ll re-up on once I run out.

For moisturiser, I always use one of those lotions for super dry skin that you get from the pharmacy, at the moment it’s QV, and I’ll use Cetaphil as well – they’re great body moisturisers too. I generally never stray from those moisturisers for the face or body, because of how dry my skin gets and how quickly and well they absorb into the skin. However, I’ve been trialling the skinfood rosehip oil just at night over the summer, and I’m liking it. I don’t really like to put oil on my skin during the day, but I definitely feel like I wake up with my skin feeling nicer when I remember to put the oil on overnight. For base or primer, I’ve been using benefit ‘The Porefessional’ for a minute now. I really like how it feels on my skin, and I definitely reckon it keeps my make-up set way better than without it. I haven’t been using the smashbox Photo Finish Primer for as long, but I really like this as a primer too. I’ll use either smashbox or benefit, whichever one I can find first in my make-up bag, and they both work great. I’ve also been on a string of 5 AM shifts for a couple of months and am always in need of more sleep, so I’ve been making use of the smashbox Hydrating Under Eye primer.

I had been using M.A.C Face & Body Foundation, but I found sometimes it made my face a bit shiny, so I went back to using the Studio Moisture Tint, which is SPF 15, and it’s been great for me, especially during summer. Although, I’m not sure they still make it, I tried to find it on the M.A.C website, and nothing came up I’ve been using the M.A.C Bronzing powder since forever, it’s probably my first proper make-up item I ever bought myself. I have been using the M.A.C Cremeblend blush in ‘Something Special’ but lately I’ve just been using the bronzer on my cheeks instead. There was awhile last year when my skin was crazy bad so I invested in a decent concealer – the M.A.C Studio Finish SPF 35 concealer, and I use the number 195 brush to apply it. I went into M.A.C and got one of the girls to match it to my skin, and show me how to apply it and what brush to use etc. cos I’m such a n00b, but I’m really glad I did. Obviously clear skin is preferable, but when that doesn’t happen, I’m happy to be able to bust out some concealer.

There are some really nice neutral tones, golds and a great dark brown in this Smashbox ‘On the Rocks’ Photo Op Eye Shadow Palette that I’ve been wearing a lot, and the colours last really well too. OK, the Benefit ‘They’re Real’ mascara is the best mascara I’ve ever used. I love it, and as soon as I started using it, I stopped using anything else. I wasn’t even much of a mascara girl before this, but now I’m bout that life and even wear it on my lower lashes, so you know it’s real. The same can be said for the Benefit ‘Gimme Brow’ volumizing gel product. Like, my brows definitely do not need volumizing lol, but I feel like my face ain’t done if I don’t put my brow gel on hahaha. What is Life.

My ultimate/most used lip product is the M.A.C Pro Longwear Lipcolour Lipstick in the ‘For Keeps’ shade. It’s basically a liquid lipstick, so you apply it like lip-gloss, and it does last forever. I hope M.A.C never stop making this product or this shade, because it’s most definitely my go-to, never fail lipstick. I have been having a bit of fun with the M.A.C lip pencil in Mahogany and going over it with a more neutral tone, ya know, like how they used to do it with the 90’s R&B chicks. The Smashbox lipgloss in ‘Coraline’ I think it’s called, but can’t find it on the site, is also nice for something a lil more subtle.
