Woah, freezing winter has set in, even before the official Winter Solstice which is next, according my to Witches Almanac. In the past I've often thought of Chicago winters as chilling me right to the bone, right to where my thoughts form, turning my emotions into ice. This year though, I find myself less sullen and more awkwardly awake - by awkward I mean, I find myself left with spare time that I normally spend sleeping. Perhaps it's the iron supplements that are finally treating my anemia, or my other medications, or the fact that I'm planning my wedding...but I feel a bit more alive, which is really nice. I'd be lying if I didn't say that medication dulls the senses somewhat - I needn't sleep so much, but creativity feels so far away, and my imagination these days exists chiefly in my dreams when sleep does come. There is a balance, I think. Maybe I'll come across it.

In any case, I've taken to eschewing my prints as of late. It's probably my perennial fascination with historical clothing, specifically the Victorian and Edwardian periods. Valentino Haute Couture, the past couple Meadham Kirchhoff collections, and my beloved issue of Dansk from Fall 2011 have been my cold comforts. The chiffon dress was sent to me by the good people at House of Widow which is an offshoot of Lip Service. These sleeeeeves are so lovely *__* While this dress is wonderful on its own, I threw on this vintage lace skirt over it for a bit of warmth and volume. I like my lace to be completely see-through and also adore the skirt's soft box pleats.
It was very, very cold when I took these photos; if I look like I am freezing, that's because I am. The time has come for me to stop taking my own photos for my blog. I am sick of out-of-focus photos on a timer. If anyone knows any good photographers in Chicago, send them my way...
These are the most perfect witch boots I've ever seen. I've yet to take them off, despite my fears of destroying them by stomping through snowy city flotsam. Luckily they are also extremely well made so hopefully they will last through several more winters! Worn with the Meadham Kirchhoff for Topshop star socks because obviously. I will mention that the socks don't fit wider calves; mine aren't super wide but I did ride a bike for many years, and they just barely stretch around my legs.
