Hoss Intropia AW14 Press Preview

What possible reason is there to be excited about summer being over other than the release of new articles in stores for the upcoming seasons, that is, fall and winter? I don't know about you but even though fall and winter aren't my dearest seasons, I'm not a bit less excited about F/W collections than S/S and Resort collections. And why not, designers and brands never fail to proffer cool, chic ideas to wrap up for the colder days. The sexy combo of leather lace? Stylish sweaters and maxis? Ponchos and capes? You name it. It was early June when I was invited to a press breakfast to exclusively preview Hoss Intropia's Autumn/Winter '14 collection. I decided not to spill anything too soon and reveal what I previewed at the time when it's already relevant, i.e., now.

Hoss Intropia's AW14 collection is an assemblage of texture plays, volume mixes and convergence of cultural and aesthetic inspirations. The up-and-coming Spanish brand has four different themes for the collection:
Blue Passion or the elegant flower that bears this name. The colours and shading of this flower have inspired the clothes, ranging from ink, navy, blackberry, bougainvillea and poppy to ivory and black. The jacquards stand out, with original colour combinations, geometric shapes, stripes, dots, and animal and vegetable prints. Ethnic embroidery and coats with a masculine cut.
Koroko, a Japanese word, which means heart, soul, mind and feelings and also the name of one of the most important novels in Japanese literature, written by Natsume Soeki, Kokoro, Sensei's Testament, reflects “the heart of Hoss Intropia." Patterns designed in-house and lines with the brand's hallmark. Gorgeous prints that bring to mind faraway Japanese landscapes. Delicate, very feminine fabrics. The colours are rose pink, tobacco, fuchsia, turquoise, orange, ochre, camel and taupe, mixed together to recreate the Japanese spirituality of tiny details.
North Sea. A journey into the depths of winter. Colours from the North and the coldest countries, snow covered, with a gloomy sea. Greys, navy blue and bottle green contrast with taupe and ivory. An emphasis on coats and suits with clean lines.
Midnight Shadows. The nights and parties are a dream of sophistication. The choice of fabrics and their savvy combination result in surprising silhouettes. An original treatment is given to guipure lace to create a leather effect that updates more classic silhouettes. Sequins light up looks that mix velvet with vaporous fabrics. Inspired by oriental elegance.
The collection features diverse energies: The collection preview first featured clean silhouettes with a smart rose jumpsuit with a scalloped opening at the back (not pictured) and a tailored black lady suit with scalloped lapel; and then a series of sweaters with delicate touches such as bow ties and teardrop cutouts; a white kaftan top which was inspired by the Japanese cherry blossoms; a luxurious maxi skirt which blended velvet, sequins and silk together; a georgette maxi dress inspired by the vibrant Russian dolls; and for the finale - my favorite - a very exquisitely silhouetted maxi dress with woodcut patterns, which had me wondering how such a pattern be so unique, so daring yet so dainty and wearable all at the same time.
Regardless of the very diverse influences, every piece in Hoss' AW14 collection upholds the brand's signature feminine feel - all featuring delicate silhouettes, carefully designed cuts, skillfully crafted patterns.
If you're in Qatar, Hoss Intropia can be found at Villaggio Mall, Doha.
