5 Newbies In My Makeup Bag

When something get’s the stamp of AL approval it goes in my daily makeup bag, the bag that remains on my vanity or comes around with me on the go and contains the most reached for products in my stash. The funny thing about holidays is that on my return I always feel the need to rummage around my stash and try to find something new, doing this I discovered some new gems…

Recently launched Bourjois Silk Edition powder has taken my heart over by storm. Bourjois powders & I aren’t a new love affair as I’ve used their Healthy Balance Powder consistently for the past 6 months. Their Silk Edition provides a little more coverage, a little more blurring and a little more luminosity. It’s such a gorgeous powder that I use as a light layer over the skin to either set foundation or as a super light coverage base. I wear the shade 53 but there are 6 to choose from.

As far as primers go there’s a new one that holds my heart, especially around this time when I can’t seem to shake the January greyness from my face. Lancome’s La Base Pro is beautiful, it leaves a pearly finish to the skin, manages to shine through foundation but not actually leave you shiny. My pet peeve with primers is when you can feel that extra layer on the skin, the layer that feels like it’s doing no good except just being another layer of product but this is one that feels so light you don’t even remember applying it in the first place. It’s pretty wonderful stuff.

Something I keep slathering on my lips at all hours of the day is Neutrogena’s Revitalising Lip Balm. My shade is Sheer Shimmer 10, a champagne colour that appears quite transparent. It’s a lovely pocket balm that does the job and adds dimension to the lips – plus it’s in stick form so no need to stick your hands in a pot!

Something I thought I wouldn’t like from Dior but was swiftly proven wrong was their new Cheek & Lip Glow. Like a rosy stain for your cheeks but one that looks almost pink on mine. All you need is a couple of dots of the spongeyball applicator, blend with your fingers and you’re good to go. It’s an extremely natural product and I love that the stain gives you time to blend it in. Compared to the likes of Benefit or Tarte stains where you’re left with mere seconds to blend the product in before it stains and if you work too slow it looks uneven! Plus with it being a stain means the colour is going to hang around for ages and longevity is something I always struggle with about blush. Same applies for the lips!

I’ve moved onto my third tube of Estée Lauder’s Sumptous Extreme Mascara recently. It’s the best formula I’ve found for thick, voluminous, in your face lashes in a couple of coats. It’s not particularly natural looking but that’s what I love about it, that your lashes are bold and noticeable.
