Glitter Mason Jar Cake Stand

Hi y’all! I’m Olivia from DIY Mother. Melissa is letting me check in a couple times a month to show you some DIY projects, and I’m so glad that I’ll be able to have the chance to share them with you.

Recently, I’ve been obsessed with black and gold; I made some black and gold nightstands a few weeks ago and now I can’t get enough. Since my daughter’s 2nd birthday is coming up, I’ve been experimenting with different entertaining DIY projects…which led me to this glitter mason jar cake stand. I made it using some leftover tiles I had from a past renovation.

I’ve always loved the way glitter mason jars look, so I made an extra one just in case I want to use it as a vase. OK; less talking, more DIYing.

Materials:
Piece of tile (I used a piece of 12×12 granite)
Smaller flat material (to stabilize the plate)
Mason jar
Mod Podge (glossy finish)
Glitter

1. Pour some Mod Podge in that mason jar! You don’t need much, about a spoonfull will suffice.

Throw some glitter in and start rotating the mason jar so that the glitter covers all of the glue. I ended up mixing the glue and Mod Podge together and spreading it evenly using a paintbrush because it wasn’t drying evenly when I just left the glitter on top of the Mod Podge. Commence gratuitous pictures of GLITTER!

2. While your glittery mason jar is drying, spray paint the base of whatever flat surface you’re using gold. The stabilizer I used was a thick piece of wood (all I had lying around) so I spray painted both.

3. Use some Liquid Nails to adhere everything together. The package says to let it cure for at least 24 hours, but who ever even does that?!

I had to run to Kroger to get a cheap cake and unfortunately it doesn’t really match the cake stand….but I still LOVE how it turned out. I might add another tier and make it a cupcake rack. Or maybe I’ll take off the mason jar and just use it as a flower pot!
