Here's where I make a big ol' embarrassing confession: I hadn't mown the lawn since August until I did so this afternoon.

Yeah. It was bad. I was losing small children and dogs in the grass it was so tall. It got away from me, I let it keep going because I was too embarrassed to go out and do it, and the situation just continued to get worse.

Poor Mr. S across the street is trying to sell his house, and I'm sure being across the street from the monstrosity that was our yard has put some home buyers off. :o( It was this that motivated me to just get off my duff and get out there and DO it.

I'm so glad I got out. First of all, it's done. That's a huge relief. Second, it'll be the last time I have to mow this year (at least I'm fairly certain it is). Third, I really do enjoy mowing (and vacuuming--it's all about those neat, straight lines. I have issues, I know this.) and it was lovely to get out in the fresh air.

We don't seem to be in the belt of frigid air that has dropped across the US. We were in the 70's yesterday, and today it was the 50s. I don't think we're supposed to drop much lower than the mid-upper 40s during the day. Typical autumn-ish temps.

Being outside also opened my eyes to what's happening out back.
For example, this baby maple is lovely and definitely needs to be transplanted come spring.

The spirea has turned the most delicious shade of red.

The clematis seems to be a bit confused...

See?

And, really, everything is just showing off at this point. (This was taken pre-mowing and removing dead garden growth, please ignore that.)

Autumn is always my favorite, my gift for having survived a hot and humid summer. But this year, it's more beautiful than I recall previous years being. I swear it is.

All of which makes me sad we've all been so sick with the crud that's been going around. Bean's had a cold--complete with nasty cough and nose--for two weeks now. B took her to urgent care Saturday since she had been sick for a week with no signs of improvement and was running a slight fever. I'm typically one to let a cold run its course, but I was worried because I knew we'd be at Nana's birthday the next day and if it was something bacterial, it'd have been lovely to have at least one dose of antibiotics in her before going.

The doctor said her lungs sounded clear and that it was most likely an upper respiratory infection, since the flu and strep tests were negative. They called in a prescription and I received notification it was ready (LOVE that I get texts from the 'Jay so I know). Then, an hour and 15 minutes later I get a text from B saying they were still there.

Huh?

I called him and told him he had better open the door and see what was going on.

Yup. They'd forgotten about them. They were there for three and a half hours!!!!!! They waived our fee for the day (ya think?!) and are sending us movie tickets. I know they feel awful. Of course they do. Who wouldn't? And embarrassed and just all around terrible for forcing a four year old to be in an exam room for that long.

I bet that won't happen to them again.

B and Lil and I have been fighting off some sort of crud as well, and are fairly certain it was brought to us from Typhoid Beanie. :oS

She and I got in a huge row about school Monday morning. I wanted her to stay home and rest, SHE wanted to go. She went. I think she may just be getting one illness on top of the other because her immune system is compromised. I'm not sure. However it is, she's still coughing and snotty and icky and I'm toying with the idea of skipping tomorrow's field trip to Jamestown and taking her to see Dr. Jen instead. She has no fever, just a cough, but it's not going away. And, I just received an email from one of Bean's classmate's mamas saying the child has 'flu. Great. Yes, we got Flu Mist, but what if it's not for the strain this child has? ARGH! This parenting thing is for the birds...

Sparklies:

1. Getting the lawn finished. Whew.

2.
I'm still working on the leaf table runner. I made a string of triangle-squares yesterday. After discussing it with GG, I've decided to make it reversible and put something Christmas-y or wintery on the back. :o)

3.
My children are weird. I love this about them. She reminds me of the little boy from "Ralphie" in line to see Santa. :oP

4. If you've not seen this, you really ought to watch for the giggles and the reminder of what 1980s aerobics were really like:

Hello, Dancercize! ;oP

5. New Simon's Cat!

Yay!

No milestones.
