‘Singin’ in the Rain’ Inspired Tablescape

Recently we sponsored Swish Printables in an exclusive Tabletop Competition in the Bash Conference- an assembly of folks in the entertainment industry- party bloggers, event planners and such – gathered to share ideas and compete for the best tablescape. The conference featured some big names in the event planning industry, such as celebrity stylish Eddie Ross from Better Homes & Gardens. The winning tablescape gets to be featured in the magazine.

The founder of Swish Printables, Donna Martin, chose us to sponsor her after falling in love with our products. Take a look at the photos of her ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ Inspired Tablescape and read our interview with Donna below.

We asked Donna some questions about the event.

Donna, Why did you choose LinenTablecloth to sponsor you?

”I reached out to LinenTablecloth for a variety of reasons. Primarily I was looking for a vendor who embodied the same values as Swish Printables. I want to help my customers through an amazing party without breaking the bank. LinenTablecloth offers quality linens, overlays, chair covers, place settings and even party accessories! I honestly fell in love with the sequin overlay that I used for the table competition at Bash and needing to have it for my table pushed me to reach out to explore the opportunity of collaborating with LinenTablecloth.”

Tell us a little bit about the Bash Conference, what is it’s purpose?

“The Bash Conference: 2015 kicked off with a brand new conference. One that’s sole purpose was to bring lifestyle & entertaining creatives, party bloggers and event planners together to learn, share, inspire, and of course, to PARTY!!! This inaugural event was full of amazing speakers and included expert educational sessions on Event Planning Business & Professional Development or Entrepreneurship & Blogging. Add in the amazing opportunities to network and meet conference sponsors and it was for sure an event not to miss! 2016 looks to be even better!”

Tell us what guidelines were required for setting up your tablescape.

“When setting up the tablescape, we only had a couple of guidelines. The first being that the theme of the table had to be either “modern elegance” or a “hollywood” theme. The second guideline related to the colors. We could only use black, white and gold. Other than these rules, everything else was fair game.”

Donna, what inspired you to create this tablescape?

“My inspiration for the table was a result of knowing that I wanted to put a spin on the “hollywood” theme. I knew that I didn’t want to go the “expected route”. Which meant that I would be avoiding things like clapboards, the hollywood sign, and an academy award. I wanted to be different but still be within the guidelines for the competition. I also knew that I wanted originality – but something that was re-creatable. I ultimately decided on the classic movie “Singin’ in the Rain”. This movie is the epitome of Hollywood elegance and fun. Although the movie was made in 1952, it’s set in the late 20′s and is about Hollywood’s transition from silent films to “talkies”. After doing some research (and knowing that I wanted to be different), I opted to skip the umbrellas (because they are expected) and went with the classic street lamp as my main star.”

What part of this tablescape were you most excited about?

“There are several aspects of my table that I am most excited about. It’s really hard to pick just one so I’ll talk about a few of the items that really pulled the concept together. First and foremost would have to be the gorgeous sequin tablecloth and the chair covers (both from LinenTablecloth). The sequins reminded me of the wet pavement that Gene Kelly tap danced and sang his heart on. The chair covers continued the “wet” look theme and were one of the most talked about items at my table. Finally, the custom printables that I created just for this event were the perfect touch. I used the table competition as an opportunity to show the guests that you don’t have to “just print them.” You can embellish them and raise the bar by doing so. I hand-glittered each item and the final look was stunning.”

What feedback did you hear from the attendees and judges?

“The attendees and the judges both loved my table. Most of my colleagues asked about the chair covers as they thought they were truly unique. Guests at the table loved the cloud-shaped stamped necklace that floated on the water goblet as well as the gold glitter frames and the lamppost place card holders that I used to share individual quotes about rain. I think one of the highlights for me was one of the judges revealed to me after the competition that my table was truly original and the average person could recreate it. She also revealed that when it came down to the judging, the judges were torn between my Singin’ in the Rain table and the one that actually won.”
