Hydraluron Moisture Boosting Mask

Whilst I like the original Hydraluron treatment, I’ve always felt it’s a little overhyped. I have dehydration-prone skin and, although it leaves the skin slightly smoother and I appreciate the dinky ingredients list, I noticed the effects most when I stopped using it. So I was interested to see if Hydraluron Moisture Boosting Masks* would be any different.

Maybe I watched one too many scary B-movies as a young teen, but I find the look of sheet masks utterly terrifying (though that didn’t stop me passing on the horror via my entire Snapchat contacts list when I applied the first mask). Housed in handy sachets, each cloth mask is well saturated in a cooling, hydrating gel. They’re fairly easy to apply, if a little oversized even on my not-very-dainty face; simply fold out and drape onto the skin. Despite their appearance there’s an unexpected upside to sheet masks if (like me) you find traditional hydrating and moisturising cream masks can feel a little suffocating on the skin – these actually pretty comfortable to wear.

(Slightly less horror film from the side. Slightly.)

After 15 minutes (best timed as half way through an episode GIRLS, generally the exact point of Shoshanna’s freak out/Adam’s profound outburst) the directions suggest removing the mask and massaging the remaining product into the skin. Unlike Hydraluron, which has a tendency to ‘pill’, I found my skin happily absorbed quite a substantial amount of residual product and I only needed a tiny dab of my usual moisturiser afterwards. My skin was left plumped up and glowing, and the fine dehydration lines below my eyes had almost disappeared. I pop any remaining product in the sachet into the fridge and use it over the following days for a hydration to-up.

At £19.99 for 4, Hyrdraluron Moisture Boosting Masks aren’t cheap but they’re perfect for boosting the skin that’s prone to dehydration, particularly before a special occasion. That said, I do get some very slight blotchiness after using the masks, usually around my hairline where I’m incredibly sensitive anyway, so I’d recommend using the masks the day before an event.
