–My apologies for this being so late. Last Wednesday I started to feel ill and by Thursday all four of us were incapacitated with the same cold. It was a hellish scene, and given how often my family has been sick since Isobel started school last August, must be part of some sad record. The main difference between this bout of flu and the rest of them was that we’ve never, all four of us, been sick at the same time before. Anthony was hit hardest so I was left with the majority of the childcare duties. In fact he’s still in the recliner right now, his gravelly-deep sick voice scaring the bejeezus out of Isobel every time he talks. Isobel was the least sick out of all of us, and an effort to keep it that way, I demanded she stay inside all weekend, even as she seemed to recover. As bad as this was for her it was worse for us, as we convelesced she burned through craft activities and dress-up costumes faster than we could keep up. Our house is a total disaster. I mean, worse than usual.

–In the moments Anthony walked away from Majora’s Mask to answer a phone call from Caleb, Isobel grabbed the controller, declared herself a fighting bunny, shot fire arrows up the moon’s nose, and tried to pour spring water on a dog.

–Thanks to the amazing @vforrestal, I have a phone again! I don’t quite have cell phone service yet (will probably be hooked up by the end of the day), but at home I’ve been able to text via iMessage and use twitter and instagram, and that has been half the battle. I love staying at home with the kids. I feel it’s my calling. Yet it is stunningly isolating at times, and having links to social media to express myself and have non-childcare related conversations keep me happy and keep me sane. I can’t sit at my desk and do my job so I really relied on my phone as a lifeline to the outside world.

–Tuesday was my husband’s birthday, and while I was lamenting our advanced age, he reminded me that thanks to the baby, the average age of our household has gone down considerably. Hooray, maths! I suggest everyone have a baby if you want to feel older yet live in a household that skews younger.
