Our Christmas 2014

I’ve always been a bit of a ‘bah humbug’ when it comes to the festive season. As a child with divorced parents, the ‘holiday’ season usually only meant one thing; my sister and i were always split up from our other siblings and pushed from pillar to post whilst members of both sides of the family demanded an ‘equal share’ in the amount of time spent with us. Christmas was just a constant reminder of the fact our family was broken and that feeling haunted me right up in to adulthood.

But, it’s true when they say that having children makes Christmas magical again. Bursting with excitement and fuelled by an untamed imagination, they are so easily swept away by the magic of it all. Suddenly, Christmas Day goes from an excuse to overindulge on food and get tipsy with the grandparents during the Queen’s speech to a morning of smiling faces, shrieks of delight and pure happiness.

Christmas 2014 was all about spending some quality family time with each other. The boys rarely get to see their daddy as he works away all week so it was nice for us all to have a few uninterrupted days together. No work calls. No blogging. No social media. Just us.

Riley woke on Christmas Eve to find that Rudolph had arrived at his Christmas tree and left a very special book for him and Harry to read and also some food for them to leave out for the reindeer that evening.

Mummy and daddy stayed up very late on Christmas Eve stuffing stockings, filling sacks and wrapping some last minute presents.

On Christmas Day, both boys decided to lay in until 8.30am……i couldn’t believe it! Why can’t they do that any other day of the week? Anyway, when they eventually rose from their pits, we scurried downstairs and their faces literally lit up when they saw all of the presents.

We were joined for dinner by my sister and niece, as well as my stepdad and brothers. Despite the fact that we have all grown up and gone our separate ways, we are essentially still a close knit family unit and i love that. Riley and Harry particularly enjoyed having their favourite girl over for the day. Tia and the boys have always had such a special bond and its wonderful watching them all together.

All in all, we had a pretty lovely day and are already making plans for this year! xxx
