Health is All About the Ingredients

The past few nights, I haven’t been eating very well. OK, maybe it’s been more like the past two weeks. I haven’t been eating as many vegetables. There’s been more nighttime snacking. There’s been junk food and chips. I chalk it up to stress as well as a bit of emotional sulking on the heels of the decision to have shoulder surgery.

But afterwards, instead of feeling comforted or soothed, I don’t feel my best like my body is dragging, not to mention the ache in my belly.

I know that I don’t feel my best, like my body is dragging, not to mention the ache in my belly. Inevitably I promise myself that I won’t eat (INSERT FOOD NAME HERE) again because I don’t want to have this feeling again.

It’s taken me a long time to view food as fuel. Not as a reward or punishment. Not as emotional support. {My husband is probably making faces if and when he reads this because yes there are still days and night when I am stressed and I turn to food and claim I’m never doing that again.} What we put into our body makes a difference, doesn’t it?

Food has the power to nourish us, help us perform well, help us heal and grow stronger. But this is largely dependent on the quality of the food that we eat – where our food comes from and its ingredients.

Take the story of Dr. Andrew Abraham, the founder of Orgain.

When Dr. Abraham was first diagnosed with cancer and going through treatment, he had trouble meeting his nutritional needs and had to rely on nutritional shakes. But the ingredients in those shakes consisted of many ingredients that, based on research Dr. Abraham found in health and nutrition books, you should never put in your body. That doesn’t sound good, right? Especially if you’re a cancer patient whose immune system is already compromised.

Born from this need for a product that would help him recover, the focus on quality ingredients is at the core of its story. Orgain is committed to including only those ingredients that support health and wellness.

  • Organic protein. Dairy-based products include USDA, grass-fed whey and milk protein concentrates. Their plant-based and vegan products use certified organic plant proteins.
  • USDA-certified organic products meaning there are no hormones, no antibiotics, no pesticides or herbicide residue.
  • All products are non-GMO, soy-free and gluten-free.
  • Free of artificial flavors, colors and preservatives.

There aren’t many products – nutritional shakes and protein powders – that can claim the same.

Orgain also limits the sugar content in its products, which is not only important for me but also for my kids who love Orgain’s kids drinks.

Their commitment to help people gain health, energy and life through clean, wholesome nutrition shines through in all that they do and is one reason why I’m proud to be working with Orgain.
