Inspired Ideas: Cate McNabb

I’m excited to launch a new series with you today that will give you a look behind the scenes of everything around the fashion and beauty world! We have teamed up with amazing professionals, entrepreneurs, experts and fashionista’s to bring you what I hope will be an inspiring look at the industry from a different angle. To start, I interviewed the team at Cate McNabb Cosmetics whose claim to fame is cruelty free, natural and non-pore clogging makeup.

What inspired you to begin your own line of cosmetics?

Cate McNabb Cosmetics was developed by founder Richard Doermer, who saw his daughter using products like lip glosses and eye shadows and wanted to provide her with a line of better-for-you cosmetics, derived from natural ingredients. The average American woman applies over 100 chemicals to her skin on a daily basis through the use of products like sunscreen, makeup and perfume. Cate McNabb provides a makeup alternative that minimizes the uses of chemicals while maximizing color and quality.

Is there anything that sets you apart from the masses?

Our mineral makeup is paraben-free, cruelty-free, non-pore clogging and derived from natural ingredients. We pride ourselves on providing bold color and flawless coverage, without compromising on quality of ingredients.

We love your tagline, Bold By Nature, how did you decide on something so fun?

Thank you! We didn’t want consumers to assume that because our products are derived from natural ingredients they are lacking in the color department! We came up with “Bold By Nature” as a way to communicate that our products are still bright, fun, and great for any type of look.

What’s the one cosmetic product you can’t leave home without?

That’s a tough one, but we have to go with lip glosses and lacquers! With the summer heat, we love to let our skin breathe and head out for the day fresh-faced. A dab of lip gloss allows us to do this while still looking polished and pulled together.

Let’s talk summer trends, what is the hot lip color right now that we should be wearing?

We’re glad you asked! We just rounded a few of summer’s hottest makeup trends on our blog and one of them bright colors, including neon orange lips. For this, we recommend a shade like our Cate McNabb Lipstick in Clementine.

We always hear how important it is to remove your makeup before going to sleep, tell us…how bad is it really?

Always wash your face before bed! Seriously. Leaving makeup on overnight can prevent the skin from renewing itself naturally while you sleep, and can lead to problems like blackheads and acne. Not to mention your makeup can rub off onto your sheets and pillowcases…gross!

What’s your favorite product in the Cate McNabb line right now?

While we mentioned lip glosses and lacquers earlier, we’re all obsessed with our gel eyeliner right now. It glides on easily and lasts all day long, especially when used along with our eye primer. One of our key looks is the Cate Eye, which uses our gel eyeliner to create a dramatic, winged look, perfect for a night out on the town.

Where do you seek inspiration for new collections?

Everywhere. Our team is constantly studying up on the latest trends and hottest colors for upcoming seasons. We always want to make sure our products set themselves apart but still resonate with the everyday girl! Since we’re a line of mineral makeup, we also draw a lot of inspiration from minerals found in nature, which can be really bright and bold in color.
