Counting Shirts. Literally.
Upon casual observation of the street style photos from New York Fashion week, I was seeing shirt after shirt after shirt popping up on the screen, which ultimately triggered two reactions. The first reaction was an anecdotal observation that shirts are trending among fashion pros. Duh. The second reaction was the decision to count these shirts. Literally. And I am pretty serious.
So here are the results.
Among the 73 photos published on Vogue, 30 included a shirt. Among the 110 photos published on style.com from the side walks of New York during fashion week, 23 included a shirt. Aggregating the two, such that 53 of 183 photos included a shirt, one can conclude that almost 29% of the NYFW fashion pack captured on camera, wore a shirt.
While the "evidence" suggests that the shirt is having its moment, my verdict of the shirt is and was - ever since I was 15, and highly influenced by Carine Roitfield and her ability to mix this masculine piece with ultra feminine pieces - that everyone should have one in their wardorbe. It's classic and versatile and very Parisian in my humble opinion.
