Weekly Wrap Up Linky – Confessions of a Clutter Bug
I am finally coming to the realisation that while I am living in this old house with a very busy pre-schooler, my chances of having an organised home are diminished.
Another realisation is that I am clutter bug… (I think I knew this already). I hold sentimental value to so many things which often makes parting with them difficult. There’s that outfit that I love… It fitted me before I had my babies… it’s probably out of fashion now, but I hang onto it because it’s pretty and maybe one day I’ll get back into it. There’s the magazines that I’ve read from cover to cover and kept on the overflowing bookshelf, unopened for years but are kept just in case I need to refer back to them and because they were a gift. And don’t get me started on the boxes and bags of baby clothes… so many memories attached…
… BUT things need to change because our house has such limited storage and when we eventually have to move out (to have our new home built in a few years) I’ll have to part with a lot of it anyway.
I decided to start addressing the clutter one small step at a time. I started going through my wardrobe using these prompts:
If the answer was NO to either question, the item would go into one of two piles:
CHUCK IT or DONATE IT
Having these rules has helped me cull a lot of clothes and household items that are no longer useful. I have donated five garbage bags full of mine and hubby’s clothes and a bag full of shoes. I also gave a bag full of my favourite clothes that no longer fit me to my niece who will get good use out of them. It felt good.
It will be a big job, but I will get there one small purge at a time.
