#Holiday #Prep Tip #4: Looking Good

Holiday functions often require a certain dress code. Besides that, who doesn't like to dress up a little, especially during the holidays? Finding that right look doesn't have to be complicated or time consuming.

Have you tried to find a dress lately? At least for me, it isn't the easiest thing to do. I'm appreciative that dresses have made a comeback so there seems to be a bigger selection. Unfortunately, what I still experience, are choices that don't meet my standards. I like to look stylish but stylish for my age. For me, that means something with sleeves, knee to longer length, not clingy-- all for a reasonable price. To land one of these dresses often takes some researching and a lot of leg work to track one down. I don't have a whole lot of free time to go searching for something with the qualifications I desire. What is a girl to do? Especially when I have a mother of the groom dress looming in my future.

Enter The Dress Spot: an online resource that scours the internet for dresses and directs to your computer styles that you request.

I met the founders of The Dress Spot recently and was fascinated by their story. Believe it or not, the individuals behind this business are two, twenty-something men: Jeremy and Craig. Craig is a recent business graduate of Brigham Young University and Jeremy will be graduating with a business degree from BYU next Spring. Last year, as budding entrepreneurs, they knew they wanted to create a start-up company. They just didn't know what their product was going to be. At the same time, Jeremy was getting married and his fiance, Sierra, was having the hardest time finding slate blue bridesmaid dresses. Such a hard time, that it was causing way too much pre-wedding stress. This quandary got Jeremy and Craig thinking. If Sierra was having all this trouble finding the dress she had in mind, whose to say that there weren't others -- thousands of others -- with the same problem. Thus, The Dress Spot was born.

Jeremy and Craig claim they knew nothing about fashion when they started out. Craig confessed to me that all through college he wore the same jeans and t-shirts he had sported in high school. But what they lacked in Fashion 101, they more than made up for with business know how and dedication. They run the business side and rely on a few close associates (including Sierra) to offer fashion expertise and guidance. Not to say their sense of style hasn't improved since starting the Dress Spot. They actively scan the Internet to find out what the latest trends are and have picked up on the buzz words for different fabrics and designs.

How does The Dress Spot work? After you log on to their site, you begin your search by determining four criteria which narrows down exactly what you are looking for:

Color: There is a huge color palette to choose from. Scroll over the color choices and choose the hues you want. You can pick up to three different colors at a time.
Price: Move the sliding scale over to the highest amount you are willing to spend.
Sleeve length: There are ten different styles of sleeves to choose from, everything from sleeveless to cap sleeves: 3/4 length to long sleeves.
Skirt Styles: Eight different lengths are available, from mini (no way), to mid-length and maxi and everything in-between. There is even a choice for that trendy style right now that is short in the front, long in the back. (No thanks!!)

You can further narrow your search by indicating your favorite stores, and if you prefer Strict Hues Only; Multi-Colored, Patterned, or Out-of-Stock dresses.

Once the search criteria is determined, dresses that qualify will pop up on your computer screen. From there, if a particular dress suits your fancy, simply click on the picture and you will be taken to the store's website where the dress is being offered. Here, you'll find additional details about the dress as well as purchase information.

What if you aren't thrilled with what comes up and you end up empty handed? Not to worry. Just keep returning to the site. The inventory grows and changes daily. Jeremy and Craig are constantly adding more stores so they can provide the biggest selection possible.

Why do I like The Dress Spot? I love the business model and think it has great potential. I totally get why Jeremy and Craig started their business in the first place because like Sierra, I have experienced plenty of frustration trying to find a dress that meets my expectations. When they explained their business, I could see right away how The Dress Spot could be a great new resource for me. Besides, Jeremy and Craig are really nice guys that I would love to see succeed.

While there seems to be more styles for younger women, there is still enough variety for me to choose from. Because their inventory is always changing, I know I will keep coming back to see what they have to offer. I so prefer doing my legwork at home than spending hours on the road going from store to store and coming up empty handed and down right distressed.

I invite you to check out The Dress Spot. There is a pretty good chance you just might find the perfect dress that you are looking for.
