The perfect sick day breakfast - stovetop oatmeal with bananas, brown sugar, and walnuts with a cup of Bigelow tea. Feel better!

Luckily in our family, we've escaped major sicknesses this season so far. Can you hear that? I'm knocking on my solid wood kitchen table right now as I type this! Usually at some point during the year a bout of the stomach flu hits us one by one in addition to one good nasty sinus/congestion filled virus. Oh it's just one of the joys of having germ-loving little boys in the house! Our normal day to day issues during the winter, though?
Just gross stuffy noses that don't ever seem to unclog. You know, the kind that just gets worse when you lay down at night. Not enough to completely lay you up for a few days, just a touch of fatigue, sinus headache, and the post-nasal drip. I have to say, it completely ruins my appetite because my favorite things usually don't taste the same with my senses all out of whack. Blessing in disguise maybe?

This Banana Bread Oatmeal and a cup of Bigelow's I Love Lemon tea is one of my favorites for this time of year!
I always remember having oatmeal as a staple in my house growing up, it was like comfort food for me. And I always liked super lemony tea, especially when you can barely taste anything else because of congestion. It's amazing to me how much the sense of smell plays into how well you can taste! That citrusy lemon flavor cuts through and it's so incredibly soothing. It's an herbal tea, so naturally caffeine free, which is especially useful when it's hard to sleep. There have been a few occasions when I've given a warm cup to the boys when they weren't feeling well. They call it their "medicine," haha! Adorbs.
Even when I'm feeling particularly icky, I can always go for a bowl of hot oatmeal. Adjust the sweetness to your liking as well with additional banana slices or an extra drizzle of maple syrup.
