Style Crush: Little Black Boots

It’s time for our new Style Crush series!!! Motel are looking to the almighty blogasphere for stunners with style and decided to kick it off with boho babe, Jill Wallace of Little Black Boots. We had a chat with LBB and teamed up with the talented Silke Labson for an LA shoot in some new season Motel styles. Find out what this stylish sweetheart has to say about her beauty must-haves, style blunders and what it takes to be a big time blogger too.

WHEN AND WHY DID YOU START YOUR BLOG?

I started Little Black Boots in November of 2011. Blogging was already a thing but definitely not the giant it is today. The whole concept of sharing fashion you love with like-minded people really appealed to me. I found blogging to be the perfect creative outlet.

LET’S TALK ABOUT YOUR PERSONAL STYLE. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOURS?
I like to describe myself as boho meets downtown. I wear a lot of maxis, muscle tees, anything high-waisted and oversized coats. Comfort over everything! I also am a sucker for anything leather and, of course, little black boots all day long.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVE 5 MOTEL THREADS AND WHY?

I’m a girl that doesn’t like to think too hard when getting dressed. I like pieces that you can throw on and feel good. Dresses and slouchy outerwear do just that!

WHAT’S THE ONE WARDROBE ESSENTIAL YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT?
Not to be completely predictable but… BOOTS!

WHAT ABOUT YOUR MAKE-UP MUST-HAVES?

My make-up routine is pretty simple, I prefer the more natural look. Whether I’m going to a wedding or the grocery store, it’s always the same. I need a solid eyeliner, eyebrow pencil and bronzer. I use a mix of drug store and MAC products. Oh and chapstick is my absolute best friend!

WHO IS YOU ULTIMATE INSTACRUSH AND WHY SHOULD WE BE FOLLOWING THEM?
I would have to say Natalie Suarez of Natalie Off Duty. I love the way she mixes prints and manages to look good in literally anything.

WHAT’S THE BEST SHOOT YOU’VE EVER DONE AND WHY?
My favourites are always the ones that take place out of town. At the beginning of this year I drove out to Joshua Tree and shot until the sun went down. It was my first time there so everything about the scenery had me in awe. Ending with a fiery pink sunset wasn’t bad either.

HAVE YOU EVER HAD ANY BLOGGING DISASTERS… COME ON, SPILL!
I’m sure I’ve had a million but one that comes to mind was an outfit where I looked like I forgot my pants. To this day I still think the photos look rad but my outfit was a little ridiculous. I also cringe a bit at the fact that for a solid year I wore a beanie with literally every outfit. But I’m sure in a few years I’ll look back and think my outfits today are silly. And so it goes!

WHAT DO YOU LOVE DOING IN YOUR DOWN TIME?
I’m always on the go so I cherish the free time I have to catch up on my favorite shows and drink wine. Some may call me a wine-o and they would be correct. I also enjoy dinner dates with friends, picnics and escaping the city.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVE L.A. HANGOUTS?
There are tons of amazing restaurants in LA, which I tend to hang out in more than bars. I love Pine & Crane in Silverlake, Ramen in Little Tokyo and Wurstküche in the Arts District. If I do venture to a drinking hole, the Ace in Downtown is great and also comes with a view. EightyTwo is amazing for the sheer fact that it has the Simpsons arcade game.

WHAT’S THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE IN YOUR LIFE POST-BLOGGING?

My life has changed pretty dramatically which is surreal to see. I remember the very first pictures I took and how awkward and nervous I was. I’ve been able to meet so many amazing people and brands because of it. It’s all very humbling and will forever keep me beyond grateful.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO ASPIRING BLOGGERS?
I think it’s important to figure out why you’re blogging in the first place. Have a goal in mind and set out to get it. Also to realize it’s a ton of work that requires being engaged seven days a week. Lastly- don’t be discouraged. I almost threw in the towel because at one point I felt like I was just sharing photos that no one saw. The next day I was reposted by a huge company, which jump-started everything for me. You will get there- In the meantime, share your work along the way and if you have what it takes, people will absolutely notice!
